DelphiX was the first set of visual components that made use of
DirectX for graphics, sound, input and other media in the Delphi IDE. It was created and released by Hiroyuki Hori from Japan in 1998. He went on to develop the components and even wrote a book in Japanese covering all aspects of the component suite. In 2000, the components we gaining wide popularity when Hori discontinued the project.
A short time after others took it upon themselves to continue the work that Hori had done with
DelphiX and created a project called
UnDelphiX.
UnDelphiX was an unofficial version which grew to become more popular than the original, but stood in a bit of a legal limbo. Since the English translation of Hori's usage agreement was so poorly worded in broken English it was hard to tell what his actual intentions were and what he would consider towards the status of the
UnDelphiX project. The host site of the project, 'turbo' (formerly turbo.gamedev.net), shut down and was taken down from its server. With it came down the original
UnDelphiX site.
Currently the
UnDelphiX project is continued by Jaro Beneš and other volunteers that help him. It has been updated to work with the latest version of Delphi and uses
DirectX 9c as it's primary API.
