JernejL of 'Top Down City' fame has found this rather neat project. It's a Grand Theft Auto clone demo made by Aukiogames called TSS. The engine was designed using Delphi.

It was also entered into the Assembly'04 competition and won 2nd place! ;) More on Aukiogames can be found at www.aukiogames.com ('http://www.aukiogames.com/')!

Download it at www.gtatools.com/tss/ ('http://www.gtatools.com/tss/')

I downloaded the source but several files seem to be missing: G2Script, G2Execute, G2Types etc. Anyone else seen this problem ?

yes, it's in [this] (http://www.pgd.netstarweb.com/viewtopic.php?p=11939#11939) thread.

Still no solution though :(

I've tried the source in D7, i renamed G2Script, G2Execute, G2Types, to GScript, GExecute, GTypes, and all worked cept for GExecute.

g2script missing units were now added!

ehh.. the car handling data is stored in the car objects themself..

Now it compiles and runs whithout a hitch, yay.
Has this projects been abandoned? It has soo much potential, the engine is pretty solid from what I can see.

The OBJ files are in a custom format. But we have the source, so we could create an editor for the files if so inclined.

You inclined shall you be

Anyone think there is any mileage to be gained by adding ODE or Newton as a phyics engine to it?

it already has a physics engine and pretty good one and written in delphi ;)

but implementing newton shouldn't be so hard..

now who is going to port ti over to linux and opengl?

I command you to be inclined to make an object editor! And i command you to be inclined to not drop this game, as it has unbelievable amount of potential. I mean, dang... This ALREADY is at the footstep of being just as good of an engine as the Grand Theft Auto 3 + series.... So impressive...

i've forwarded the request to aukiogames ;)

i'm not going to work on it, i got my own project - Top Down City :)

I think the engine could be used to write a Syndicate/Syndicate Wars clone. That would be awesome.

But the first priority should be to port it OpenGL and then Linux and MacOS. Once the OpenGL part is done, the OS part should be fairly straight forward.

Anyone ever play the game "Driver"?

I'm still downloading the file.. but I hope it's like that game. If it is, I'd be inclined to start working on this game, even though I have NO knowledge about game programming.

I have for the PlayStation(my Navy mess-mates like to bring their PSOne and 2s, XBoxes and N64 and GameCubes when we sail and this is the only time when I get to play these systems ;)) and I could not get past that first cursed mission where you seem to have to do every taxing driving trick in the game. :P Never got to the fun part. Considering it is there. :?

Well I didn't like that game, but I would still like to see this engine become something cool so... has anyone played with this yet? Made a similar project?

The first level of driver was tough. You have to use the hand brake and the burnout button (in sequence) in order to do a good 180 and 360. This is just like a real car, especially front wheel drive cars where you can induce oversteer with the handbrake.

The TSS game is pretty neat, quite like driver actually! Did any of you try driving a Police Truck with a trailer attached to it? (after editing the script file, of course, and uncommenting out a few lines) You can use the trailer that is attached to the Police truck to smack other cars if you are really skillful, without damaging your car. Might be a future game "trick" to save you damage ;-) Kind of feels like a pendulum.

I've got a lot of projects I'm working on, but this game seems attractive. Anyone else looked into this game and seen huge potential?
