No, I didn't sneeze! ;) XPde is a desktop environment for Linux on the x86 platform. It was made under the Kylix compiler with the sole purpose to recreate the Windows XP enviroment pixel-for-pixel. No underlinning Linux functionality is changed.

This would be something great for those that want to get into Linux, but just don't want to let go of the Win32 GUI.

For more information about XPde visit www.xpde.com ('http://www.xpde.com/')

You mean all those nasty worms, viruses, spyware, trojan hourses and other misc crap you get when just simply using your system? I had just recently removed a spyware worm (great now the little bastards are combining them) that I had contracted because I had my Anti-Virus agent down one day while there was a problem.

These days you need a network security program, anti-virus software, email scanner, spam/junk mail blocker and some kind of browser security system (popup blocker, etc) to be able to just use your system while online without eating the big chunk of poo.

The Windows world is pretty nasty sometimes and gradually becoming more and more so.

No not that, it's that certain core parts of windows malfunction for little to no reason. I have a second serial on my windows CD and that's what I use for this PC, the first serial operates flawlessly, but the 2nd does not. Even though we bought it directly through the phone. The 2 pcs are almost identical, yet mine still malfunctions.

For example, I install Unreal Tournament 2004 and it forces me to install the Speech Tools SDK. Once that SDK is on my system, ANYTHING which uses OLE/COM interfaces go bonkers. Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, StarOffice, and many more ... obviously I cannot use SpeechTools and anything else. Yet the same problem occurs when I install the .Net support as well.

See why now? After 6, yes 6, reformats to pinpoint the exact problem I find there's no fix. I'm the only one "ever" to report this, and as far as MS is concerned ... 1 ain't nearly enough. So I've kinda had it with M$.

XP Home or Professional?

Actaully the XPde enviroment is supposed to only resemble the graphics of the user interface, not it's more caracteristically Microsoft-like symptoms. ;) So lagless menus and no blue screens apparently.

Home edition. Almost identical pcs, only video, sound, and Harddrive are different.

I know it's juat a shell for Linux, but the more I use windows ... well you get it...

If it is developed using Kylix does it work on the Linux 2.6 kernel?
