View Full Version : PGD Top 10: Best Games of All Time!

WILL

Hey guys!

I just thought I'd run a fun little mock-competition here. There are no prizes or hand-outs other than simply the honour of being considered amoung the top 10 games in Pascal game development history.

All you have to do to participate is reply in this thread whichever games you feel should be added to the big list and considered amoung the top 10. I will then gather up all these games after the nomination period ends and then add a poll to this thread with all of these games that any and all PGD Members can all vote on.

Once the voting period is done the results will be fixed and the winning teams will be shown.

Nomination period: NOW - Oct 10th

Voting period: Oct 10th - Dec 20th

The criteria for a game is simple:

 It must be made primarily using Pascal (Turbo/Borland Pascal, Delphi, Free Pascal, Lazarus, Dev-Pascal, Kylix, Vector Pascal, TMT Pascal are a few tools that it might have been made with.)
 It must have been made BEFORE today!
 It needs to be at least a completed game or in mature demo state.
 Your game and any other commercial, independent, freeware, shareware or other games ARE acceptable so long as they follow the above criteria. This also includes PGD Annual competition entries that were completed into a game or mature demo state.

NOTE: Not required, but any link to a working demo or game website, might help others that have not played the game themselves to gather an opinion.

Let the nominations begin... :)

Ok change of plans!

I'm going to change the way we are going to be voting. Now to vote, you have to post your 'top 5' games in order like so.

1) Game Name (given 5 points)
2) Game Name (given 4 points)
3) Game Name (given 3 points)
4) Game Name (given 2 points)
5) Game Name (given 1 points)

You can only choose 5 from the list of nominees. And you have to mark them from 1 to 5. That means that I'll only add points for 5 games and score them in order of how they are numbered. You cannot repeat a game title for extra points!

These votes will be manually scored by myself. (I started it so I'll at least do the work ;)) And after the voting period is complete I'll compile a big list of all the scores and post the PGD Member decided 'Top 10 Best Pascal Games! 8)

:!: Those of you that have already voted, please post here to vote now. The existing poll will be removed. :!:

Wasn't there a list somewhere that featured pascal games?
Or at least, if there isn't one, shouldn't we make one first and then choose which is best?

Edit: I've started this new endeavour here (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/viewtopic.php?p=38952#38952)

You guys realize that you are NOT voting now? You're only nominating games to go onto the list. So all you have to do now is simply name the games which you think should be up for the top 10 list.

After the 10th I'll be making a huge list of all the ones you guys asked for and those that are well known. (my own rather large list as per both my 'Epic Delphi' video and the nice sized list at Great Games Experiment and of course those completed games in the PGD Annual competitions --pre or post event versions)

So for now just focus on picking those that you think are worthy of the top 10 and not which you want to be made #1. :P

As for voting that will be done after the 10th and you will be able to vote for your #1. As you may or may not notice... that leaves 9 others which you don't pick. So we will need a lot of votes from PGD site members for it to work. So nag em away! ;)

and of course...

Actually Traveler has assisted this effort to make a nice big list in this thread here: The great list of Pascal Games (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/viewtopic.php?t=4908)

So so lets see if we cannot make that list grow.

Ok nomination period is now over! It's time to vote.

I've listed all the ones I could think of myself along with all the other ones that were nominated in this and the other big list thread.

Have a look over the rather sizable list and make your vote count! ;)

BTW; you can look over the original post to try all the games if you want to take it seriously. All the games have a link to a page that you can download the game and try it out from.

I voted for Crashblock 8) but I would have liked to have included 2 more games..

1 vote each is great democracy, but with such a wide spectrum of games, it's hard to choose.. I was torn between Crashblock and Siege of Avalon (which I love) there are so many worthy games in that list that it almost seems cruel not to vote for them too.

Yeah, I really would have loved to had a multi-option voting system. I just hope that there is enough votes to make this an honest list of at least 10 games in some sort of order. :P

A tall order considering that there is about 80+ games listed and just over a thousand members at PGD. :o

What I might do is do a 2nd round if we don't get enough votes and take the top X amount and have everyone vote on those. I'll likely do that as a tie breaker anyway.

And yes, I also see that some people are just nominating and voting their own games. Oh the egos. :P (psst: We don't see any of my games up there do ya? Not that I finished any... yet. ;))

Hi there...

I know it's a very old topic, sorry, but I was wondering -- where was this game list compiled from?
In the early 00's, my game Kyodai Mahjongg was well known as a commercially successful game made with Delphi. There aren't a lot of those. It also won two Shareware Industry Awards in a row (for best game). I was relatively active in forums at the time, and tried to promote Delphi as a game development platform. I'm surprised it didn't show up in the nomination list.

http://cynagames.com

Keep in mind that development ended in August 2006, though.

For what it's worth, v1.x was made with Turbo Pascal 1.5 for Windows. v2.x and above were made with Delphi. I progressively migrated from Delphi 2 to Delphi 7 in the course of the development period. I never lost interest in Delphi, but learned PHP to allow for communication between the game and my website, turn it into a platform... In the end I was so excited by the new challenge, that I focused on PHP programming only. Ah, well, these things happen.

Still -- Kyodai Mahjongg is a Delphi game, and the first Mahjongg Solitaire game to have made the jump to 3D. (Maybe even the first puzzle to do that, but I don't know for sure.)
Just wanted to make it clear. :)
