  • Pascal Gamer Is Coming Back Soon in Podcast Form

It has been a long time since a new issue of the Pascal Gamer Magazine has been released, but fret not! It will be returning in a new format soon. Podcasting! Yes, that's right Mr. Jason McMillen (me) will be doing frequent podcasts. Definately audio, but there is a possibility of also having video podcasts as well.

The format will be a bit loose to allow for interviews, discussions and talks with other well known developers and individuals involved with game development using the Pascal language and tools available. We'll have interviews and talks with the game developers making games with Pascal now and in the past, some tool developers or Evangelists too.

There is hope to have iTunes hosting as well as direct download from the website. If we do video podcasts we may also host them on YouTube as well so you can share and embed episodes on your own blogs and websites. Video content would consist of various B-roll type things like Pascal-made game footage, various clips of interest and the like.

Jason McMillen (Editor in Chief) Holding First 2 Issues of Pascal Gamer Magazine

We are still planning to continue releasing future magazine issues in digital form. No details as to the exact format or distribution, but we would like to start working across various other mediums than just text and images in print format. There is so much out there now and things like the new iBooks format with embeded video, 3D models, audio textbook technology is something really exciting that we would also like to explore also.

More will be announced here on PGD and on our website at www.PascalGamer.com.

Nice, this way I can practice my Engilysh, and I should because I'm planning to look for job outside Spain. Are you British or American?

Will you publish a transcription or "subtitles" for the podcast?

Yes, I'm from Canada. Though I'm originally from the big city of Toronto so some people say I have more of an Amercian (US) accent.

Unless those are from the provinces of Newfoundland and the surrounding maritime area("out east"), our accents are pretty much the same though.

Though if my plans work out "we" will be able to cover both halves of the globe in our podcasts.

We weren't really planning on going through and transscripting everything. That woud take so much time to do ourselves. Is there a program to do that for you? I know Mac OS X comes with Text To Speech software, but to record it, I don't know. Might have to pick it up the hard way, but just listening. But I'll consider this if it's easy to do.

I am buying some software to be able to do the recording. We'll be using Skype and Hijack Audio Pro for recording and I may use either Audacity or Fussion, which may work a little nicer with Hijack as they are from the same developers. For video I'm probably going to use iMovie. I had some great experiences working with it on my own wedding video, and some other few things getting to learn how it works. Puts Windows Movie Maker to shame.

AFAIK speech recognition is a hard task. No one application is good enough and all them needs training before use.

I asked for transcription just as a help while listening. It's hard for no-English-speakers because the accent is too different in each country, same than in Spanish; compare Spanish from Argentina and Spanish from Spain, even between different areas of Spain (i.e. north and south).

I think Spanish language is the top one for having so many variations, no? The Spanish did a lot of spreading out over the centuries. Practically took over the whole of South America too.

Sorry it would be too much work to manually transcript a nearly hour-long podcast. And to do it monthly wouldn't work either. But we'll be a recording so at least you can rewind us and play us back if you missed something we spoke to fast about.

Don't forget to suggest anything you want us to talk about on the first session.

I would disagree with this. For instance in Hungary (Central Europe) they have so diverse language that almost any setlement has it's own dialect. In many cases theese dialects are so different that even pepole from nearby setlements can't comunicate with each other if speaking in dialect, they need to use literal Hungarian.
But China deffinitly wins becouse it has more than dozen languages with countles dialects.

Oh and APul said that I can let the cat out of the bag. Paul Nicholls will be partnering up with me on the podcasts.

The first podcast will be just us two talking about what we want to discuss and chat about so you guys can get to know us vocally a bit before we start adding guests.

Also I'm starting to discuss with others about coming onto the show. I've already contacted a couple people to gauge their interest.

Hey Will which software are you planning to use?
I resently started using TeamSpeak and while teamspeak is mostly used by gamers to provide voice comunication between teammates I think you could also use it for recording podcasts.
So what are the best features of teamspeak which can be used for podcasting?
      1. Teamspeak supports Windows, Mac, Linu, iPhine, Android meaning you can use it on all mayor platforms.
      2. It has support for conversation between multiple pepole
      3. Each client can be recording conversation meaning that if there are any problems with connection you can always ask others to send them their recordings so you can fix parts where sound might have got lost due to conection problems or such.
      4. You only need one software and not several different programs as if you would try to record Skype cals.

The only drawback I see would be the fact that you cant make conversations with pepole who use SykpePhones.
