Hello everybody,
a lot of time passed since my last "upload" so i decided to do some easy
stuff to post while you're waiting for bigger projects from the compo!

Screenshots:

http://www.fnxgames.com/imgs/games/InvasionTitle.gif
http://www.fnxgames.com/imgs/games/Invasion.gif

Here it is, Invasion is a simple game where you must create chain reaction
between parachuters and bombs falling from the sky. It took me about 3
nights do build (including ripping gfx eheheh) and it still need lots of tune up but basically the game works.
I've an artist working on the GFX actually, i'm not sure it will be as good as it looks now but for sure it will be
custom and not ripped as usual. (Game is coded in Delphi+DelphiX)

I've taken the concept from the demo Chain Reaction of this guy that is
developing a java game engine http://www.13thmonkey.org/~boris/jgame/

I spent so much time on that game that i thought to build a tribute to it!
Laugh I know what you all are thinking about.... :?
Also to see if i can code something similar in few time, of course i didn't
look at that demo source, i don't like copying, but learning!

Some instructions:

-Create chain reactions between bombs and parachuters (and vice versa)
to complete any wave (actually unlimited)

-You start with 15 bullets and you receive bonus from remaining bullets after every wave of enemies

-Every chain reaction of 5+ enemies gives bonus points and +5 ammo
-Every chain reaction of 10+ enemies gives bonus points and +10 ammo
-Every chain reaction of 20+ enemies gives bonus points and +20 ammo

-If invasion % reaches 100% or more you're dead immediately (10 people or bombs or both reach the floor)

In game keys:
Enter - Start the game
Pause - Pause the game
Esc - Should i say exit the game? Tongue
F - Show/Hide FPS
Mouse to aim and left button to shoot

Download:

Bye for now Wink

When waiting for a wave I get: "00.00.03 is not a valid time" and the whole thing freezes.  Looks nice though.

Well that is a new feature called AIRBS that means Advanced Integrated
Random Bug System that generates bugs sometimes Wink

I'll look into it, i've tested on 3 PCs with no problem, but as i said it took
me only 3 night to code it so i suspect it's full of bugs actually Smiley

Be patient and i'll post a fix/update in a couple of days!

Got the error "00:01 is not a valid time" at startup, only black screen after that. So I was not able to take a single look at your game Sad

It works fine here (nice little game!).
That error should be due to different international settings. I have tried to change my windows settings from Italian to English and the AIRBS raises here too.  Laugh

Hey, very nice. Looks polished too. (Got the error as well though :?)

And you say that you started this 3 days ago? Not bad!

So... why aren't you in the competition again?

>>Legolas: thanx for that, there isn't any FormatDateTime there that i
remember about but i'll check why it happen Smiley

>>WILL: i'm not in the compo because i can't plan 3-4 months of spare
time to build a decent game.. I won't enter a compo with a game like this
eheheh, at least i hope you mean so! Wink

I assure you all that tomorrow i'll provide a fix for the game with some
addons too!

Thanx again for the feedback, very appreciated!

Hold on. So whats so bad about this game?

The PGD Annual isn't a Build a 'Quake 5' Competition. It's a game making competition for those that like making games and to show off interest in doing so.

You have an artist making graphics that are not ripped, provided that those ripped were public domain you should be fine too.

You just need to add say another genre to it in some form and you have a competition entry. I'd say it seems like you made the game within the timeframe of the competition...

I think you're holding yourself to an unrealistic standard to be honest. The important thing about the PGD Annual is to show your love for making games in the language. No one is saying that if you can't make game X good you can't enter. It's really all up to you to stop telling yourself that.

Anyhow I hope you are able to finish this game in or out of the competition, it looks like a lot of fun. I'll be sure to give you some feedback once you put in the fix. Wink

Update! Wink

-Problem with regional settings should be fixed (tested with almast all settings with no prob)

-Added intro/menu music loop and misc sound fx

-Fixed the scoring system

-Minor improovements and fixes

Download Here http://www.fnxgames.com/download/demos/Invasion.rar

This time the game is quite big (around 1Mb) because i exported gfx and
sfx stuff into proper file outside the exe.

>>WILL:
I know that the PGD Compo does not require a Quake 5 game to compete
but it's my way of thinking.. I don't feel familiar with english when i must
explain things like this but Invasion in my mind should be nothing more
than a little casual game (flash stuff usually). What I imagine as a compo
project is something very very different.

Last year i had a very ambitius game to code, and because of my job
i couldn't finish it or at least follow its evolution. So i quitted and decided
not to enter this year to avoid the same thing happen again. I'm sorry for that but this is me

As last note, please don't say that "I think you're holding yourself to an
unrealistic standard to be honest", because it's not true. Simply i'm not
going to begin something i'm not sure to finish as i would, that's it. Smiley

I prefer to show my love and contribute to pascal gamedev with my own
deadlines and ideas of games. I'm sorry if this sounds stupid.

Friendly,

Hey, started the game and finally I was able to take a look at it Smiley
Looks very nice and addictive! But the first time I shot at big amount of parachutes t create a chain reaction I got the following error:

"Image 'HintX210' not found"

Anyhow... looks simple but good Smiley The kind of games you need in your break at office *hehe*

Greetings,
Dirk

Edit: Started it a second time without problems now.... Hmmm...

How do I get new Ammo?

How do I get new Ammo?

1- Hint not found is simply because i did images only up to 200, that is
the 20th consecutive parachuter exploded, ehhehe i should add at least
images until 30... to explain it, the hint is the little "+10, +20 etc..." that
scroll up when something explode (bomb or parachuter)..

2-the second time you did not have a chain of 20+ explosion, that's it Wink

3-About the ammo, as of the first post of this thread:

-Every chain reaction of 5+ enemies gives bonus points and +5 ammo
-Every chain reaction of 10+ enemies gives bonus points and +10 ammo
-Every chain reaction of 15+ enemies gives bonus points and +20 ammo

anyway you should see another hint "AMMO+5" or "AMMO+10" or "AMMO+20" when you get additional ammo.

Have fun Smiley

Hey FNX, it worked for me this time. Smiley Good work.  The combos are interesting, and I found it a little odd at first since I thought I had to shoot the bombs.  Anyway, I got the hang of it and got into the second wave, while making combos of up to +10 ammo.

Nice work overall.  And I completely understand why you didn't join the competition.  I don't like rules and deadlines either. Wink
