For geometric shaped things like houses and boxes try Milkshape 3D (I just wish it had a nice orthagonal view window that didn;t distort by distance)

For people try Power if you can find a copy.

If you just want sprites to use in your games try
He adds something most weekends.

Make a model and take a 2d rendering of the model :)

Make a figure in Poser and take a render - then use it in a game. I dont do any 3D stuff but thats how I make my stuff :)

Here's a couple of tutorials that may help you out.

So You Want To Be A Pixel Artist? (http://tsugumo.swoo.net/tutorial/)
The Complete Guide to Isometric Pixel Art(Featured on DelphiGamer not too long ago) (http://rhysd.syntesis.org/tutorial/)

A good set of forums for pixel artists is Pixelation (http://pixelation.cjb.net/). Just be careful how you go about requests as you can imagine they get requests quite often. And not in the most thought out way sometimes.
