Some days ago I was invited to participate of the Global Game Jam (http://globalgamejam.org/). A bunch of guys trying (and mostly succeeding) to make a game in about a weekend. Unfortunately my Pascal engine was not prepared for this kind of rapid development, so my team choose to use Construct 2, a visual tool focused in 2D games. We suceed to produce a game (one stage only... but with a boss!).
It was a great experience. In my city's jam we got 318 jammers. We divided in teams of about five people. My team started with just 2 people, me and a friend. In the event we got a graphic artist and a musician and suceed to make a game. It was really great to know many other game developers, programmers, graphic artists and musicians. The whole jam produced more than 50 games.
More unfortunately no games was produced using Pascal (Of course the majority used visual tools). I think we should prepare ourselves to the next year's event, and put some Pascal games in.

You can play our game online here: http://www.futurosistemas.net/drink_or_die/

Neat looking game! :)

I'd love to see one of these events with many of the people in this community here. Problem is that everyone is spread out all over the globe so that doesn't seem likely.

That doesn't mean we can't have a gamejam style mini competition though.

Definately lots of engines and libraries to choose from too.

A mini-competition of one weekend would be nice. These kind of short deadline make us focus in the result and finish a game.
