Hey, not a bad start. Something I found that helps it trying to work with a brick shape and mold out your creation from that. Takes a bit of time, but I've found some success from it. Mind you , I havenot done alot of modeling.. in fact very little. Programmer's modeling ;)

Nah, it looks like a Mercedes SLK if I'm not mistaken. The front plan view of the car gives it away.

[Here] (http://sv2.3dbuzz.com/index_sv.php?showthread.php?threadid=38126&goto=1) is a forum thread that describes the work-in-progress for [this] (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/4201424/) brilliant 3D model of a racing Honda NSX. The forum thread is full of great hints and tips for modelling a car.

Hey, thats coming along really well. I work with Lightwave, and have created hundreds of models, but never a car. I like to make Robots and organic, animal like things. Keep us all posted on how it turns out.

Tux, the model looks very nice, but I am not keen on the pastel colours :).

Hey tux some nice improvements. Are you learning from a tutorial? Maybe you can add it to the PGD Library or maybe write your own on the techniques you've learned?

Hmm... I think maybe a solid color might be easier for you to 'see' your object. grey on grey won't bring out the shape as nicely for your eyes as a solid blue, red or green.

got the back going now :)

The headlights look strangely odd-shaped. Or haven't you got around to touching those up yet?

there is also a couple if minor issues about the rear spoiler as far as i can see.
I'm not sure if it is justbecause the mesh is smoothed or something

But great work its coming along really well!

Is the model just for practice or is it going to be used for something?

There is a good tut on cgtalk about box modelling a car which might show you some good tricks for the details even though its not the same model

Cool. What else can you tell us about that project? I see it's using TrueVision3D.

I just bought Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 yesterday (another tax deduction for me :) ). It looks and plays very sweet. All 700 cars are modelled extremely well.

not much to tell really :)

it was origionaly planned to use pure d3d9 (me and another person was working on it and he was going to do the graphisc engine part) but progress stopped, so i temporarily switched to TV3D.

its using newton 1.30 (1.31+ use a different vehicle solver what doesnt like the hard suspension, and i think the suspension acts more real in the older versions).

im not using the Tv3D input engine, i coded my own dx controller class months ago, that supports joysticks/wheels/keyboard. has assignment checking, controller indexing (so if the order of joysticks changes you dont have to re assign everything, really anoying in other games), primitive force feedback (uses the forces on the car, not the torque from the steering wheel)

no sound yet, i scrapped my sound experiments from a few months back

its also got a primitive day/night cycle

*bump*

i re started it yesterday and the result is a lot better :)

this time i started it using a box instead of a plane

progress 1 (http://jon.vadertrophy.com/models/SLR/renders/progress7-1.jpg)

progress 2 (http://jon.vadertrophy.com/models/SLR/renders/progress7-2.jpg)

progress 3 (http://jon.vadertrophy.com/models/SLR/renders/progress7-3.jpg)

the polygon count is nicer as well ;)

The first you do something, it takes a while. The second time, it takes an amazingly short time compared to the first. :)

yes :D its so much easier as well (although i nearly mucked up the back bumper)

ive still got far more to learn (i just stumbled across a way to make air ducts :) )
