Dell has released a 24" wide-screen LCD that has a lot of people drooling. 1920x1200 resolution at 12-16ms refresh.

Some forum groups have got together to do a group purchase of these things. An American group did and got them for ~US$900 each. In the last two days, 200 members of the Australian broadband user community put their hands up for one (or more), and they just worked out a deal with Dell for AUS$1450 each.

I am very tempted to get one, but I think my wife would kill me. :)

Thanks for the heads-up Sly. Just put my name down for one. I can't wait.

The deal was pulled by Dell management at the last minute. Apparently there was some uproar by corporate customers who had purchased at the higher price, the various Dell internal sales reps who were trying to undercut each other, product shortage (it's only been available for two weeks) and other factors. Apparently one bulk order through a corporate account had also been quoted at $1305 per unit including sales tax and delivery. This quote may also be retracted due to it being a corporate sale who were planning to resell the units.

There are now rumours of Samsung (who make the LCD panel) and Benq (who take the LCD panel and manufacture the Dell monitor) being interested in matching the Dell offer.

There over 350 people interested in this deal. Just goes to show how much of an effect a large group can have when purchasing.

I'm a bit slow here, but since when did Whirlpool stop making white goods?

Just thought I'd let you know that my monitor arrived yesterday. Absolutely awesome. Plenty of coding space now.

When I have some time, I'll post some pics.

Ciao

Damn. I had placed an order, but then cancelled it because I needed the money elsewhere. Would have been very nice though. :)
