What is FreePlay (' http://www.free-play.org/')
I hear you ask...
<blockquote>

Free Play will cater for independent and DIY game developers, game modders and mappers, creatively frustrated professionals, game development students and digital artists from every state in Australia. Its aim is to bring together these communities in a forum that is financially reasonable, with a programme developed by the communities themselves.

A list of speakers for this year's conference can be found at http://www.nextwave.org.au/freeplay/speakers.html ('http://www.nextwave.org.au/freeplay/speakers.html')

If anyone from here goes, please let us know how it went.

Is anything like this organised in other parts of the world?

That list of speakers is for last year's conference. They do not have a list of speakers for this year's conference yet. The only thing confirmed so far is the date (15-17 July) and location (ACMI, Federation Square, Melbourne).

Here in South Africa we have a once a year large Gaming convention (www.rageexpo.co.za). I know there is an effort underway to get some sort of hobby gamer group together at the expo. It happens sometime early October each year.

Early october should be a good time to release the alpha version of my E4E entry :)
