What exactly does "Retro" mean? It's a pretty vague term, I agree. I general rule is: The game must simulate what a pre-1988 game would look/feel like.
More details at the link listed above.

A second contest in such a short time?!
Sounds cool, but one contest entry is enough for me.
Hows your entry doing cairnswm?

Havnt had much time. Work is hectic and getting my daughter making games in Game Maker is really tiring :(
Fighting A* at the moment - my old implementation keeps crashing so decided to redo it.

Well, as long as you're still working on it :D
A* is on my list too, but thanks for mentioning that I as it did remind me of your tutorial about A* here on PGD
Btw, have you seen the screenshot thread (http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=328834&PageSize=25&WhichPage=7) over at gamedev? Some are quite amazing. There's even one that looks a bit like your game. Graphics wise that is.

You wouldn't be thinking of the screenshot that cairns posted of his own entry on page 5, would you? :)

hmm. well me and *other people* are making a breakout clone. but were using shaders etc :(
It would very geeky to write a game that uses pixel shaders to make the graphics look pre-'88. :)
hehehehe

Good question! I'll update the page right now. :) As for the answer: no, sourcecode inclusion is optional.
Thanks for providing the linkage, cairns. I hope to see some interesting entries from the fantabulous folks here!
but are points added if you include sources?
are there a memory limitations?
what if you load fully 3d models but lock the camera to a side or top down view and only let it move on 2 axis? does that count as 2d? ;)
and are new things like pixel shaders allowed?

Nope, sorry. :)

Anything within reason. Judges all have at least 128mb of RAM.

No. :)
and are new things like pixel shaders allowed?
As long as it doesn't noticably look like something that would be impossible in a game of the timeframe mentioned.
Thanks for the interest!
