PS Let me think of a riddle :P

When is 99 more than 100 (Significantly more - more than 50% more)?

tux
26-07-2005, 03:07 PM
convert dec99 to bin :P

Traveler
26-07-2005, 03:14 PM
I doubt the answer has to do with converting 99 to binary.

I was thinking though, you could do 9+9 = 18 and 1+0+0 = 1. But could it be that simple?

cairnswm
26-07-2005, 03:25 PM
Hint : 90 = 100 * 1.5

BenBE
26-07-2005, 03:48 PM
dec99 = hex63 = bin1100011

Based on that: Write an equation containing 64 and 100 without any operations except "=", "dec" and "hex".

cairnswm
27-07-2005, 06:07 AM
Type the numbers into an electronic microwave

100 = 1 min 0 seconds
90 = 0 min 90 seconds = 1 min 30 seconds = 100*1.5

Traveler

@BenBE: I'm not even sure I understand the question

@cairnswm: Good one!

Paulius

64 hex = 100 dec, but where's the riddle in that?

cairnswm
27-07-2005, 11:30 AM
dec100=hex64

A riddle:

Why do programmers confuse 25th december with Halloween?

You haven't seen my house at Christmas  Little monsters everywhere!

Here's one for you:

How many letters are in the alphabet?

JSoftware
28-07-2005, 09:59 PM
28 ofcause :P

Paulius
28-07-2005, 10:13 PM
Different alphabets have different number of letters, so the most correct answer would be 8

Traveler
29-07-2005, 07:28 AM
28 ofcause :P

28? I always thought there were 26

cairnswm
29-07-2005, 10:27 AM
THE ALPhaBet = 7 unique, or 10 Letters

BlueCat
29-07-2005, 10:34 AM
Ok those answers were kind of all correct, except 28??? :?

Oh and cairnswm, very good answer but you need a recount

So yes the answer was supposed to be the number of letters in 'the alphabet' but you can interpret that in any way you like.

Can someone ask a better one please? Mine was a bit stupid

Traveler
29-07-2005, 11:39 AM
Ok, here's another one (And NO cheating (http://www.google.com)! :D )

I am weightless, but you can see me. Put me in a bucket, and I'll make it lighter. What am I?

BlueCat
29-07-2005, 11:41 AM
Light :D

Traveler
29-07-2005, 11:47 AM
Thats pretty clever. And a correct answer I suppose, but I was looking for something else. (lighter, as referring to weight)

BlueCat
29-07-2005, 11:57 AM
Helium

Eriken
29-07-2005, 01:30 PM
If you put helium in a bucket it will just disappear upwards? If you turn the bucket, do you then but the helium in a bucket or on the ground? ;)

The silly answer: Nothing

I can see nothing.. I can put nothing in a bucket, and if I take out something of the bucket it will be lighter then :P

The insulting answer will be left out, it would have been a comment about someone's brain ;)
_____
Eriken

cairnswm

A balloon? (I had to have a spell checker to spell that  )

BlueCat
29-07-2005, 01:34 PM
I was talking about pink helium which is an entirely different thing. And don't worry about your brain Eriken, we don't mind.

Ok is it an anti gravity magnet?

Paulius
29-07-2005, 01:39 PM
this riddle is flawed, everything is composed of particles and all particles have mass. Now if we elliminate the weight criteria I would go with acid.

Traveler
29-07-2005, 01:45 PM
Nope, helium is not correct as I cannot see that. And its not a balloon either because a balloon does have some weight.

When you put [answer] in the bucket it will become noticably less heavy. :)

{edit} you're getting close Paulius

Fire!

:D see its not that hard :D

PS. I noticed we can now close this thread. I'm now counting 12 active threads :)

Ok - this is a really lame one:

What is invisible to the uninitiated but its results are visible to the uninitiated and the initiated love it, while the unitiated love its results?

It may be closer to home than you expect. :)

I am weightless, but you can see me. Put me in a bucket, and I'll make it lighter. What am I?

Hmmm..

This one gave me some sleepless nights...

Maybe a hole?

Would make it considerable lighter.. specially if theres something in the bucket :)

Traveler

That was actually the answer I was looking for. But I settled for fire instead as it gives the same result :D
