Which would be best?

A) Comments displayed per article

OR

B) Comments displayed per article page?

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you perhaps give a small description of the two options?

Edit: After thinking about it a bit more, I suddenly realised that article <> news item. Err, yeah. It's Sunday. Brain is switched off.

Comments per article should be fine. You shouldn't need them per page.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't want to go all 'feature overboard' only to make it's functionality more a pain in the butt than helpful.

Definitly per article - not per page.

I have never liked the page system for articles (on this or any other site). Articles are of most use when downloaded and used on my PC. Page systems make it difficult to do this.

Whenever I view an article on GameDev.net or Gamasutra, the first thing I do is click on the "View printable version" or similar link. This gives me the entire article on one page, usually with black text on a white background.

I'll consider this feature after I have added the Comments feature AND after finally fixing the parser. :)

What about Anonymous comments? Should I allow for them?

Not unless you want more work, there is bound to be some dorks running around writing crap anonymously.. The thing this century appears to be "Oooh.. I'm first!"... "yesss.. I'm number 10!"

If you want people to log in more, "anonymously" wouldn't help there either ;)

Gone as far as I'm going to go on it tonight. What do you guys(and gals?) think of the brushed up look and minor additions to the article viewer?

Looking good so far.

It'll be nice to get some feedback on articles via the comments :)

I'm also hoping to make authoring articles alot nicer. I know how fustrating the parser issue has been. This will be my next priority after I finish the Article Comments feature.

William: Have a gander here (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/viewarticle.php?a=37&p=1). Notice anything that seems to work well now? :)

Haleluja! PASCAL CODE

Knew I kept it in for a reason :)

Thanks WILL/Jason!

Well I had to go through the database and alter the stored BBCode tags to include the bbcode_uid feature.

I'm using the actual BBCode parser so all the tags will work. ;)

Only thing that remains is to fix the editor's realling of this stored data to the original form that it's stored in.

Cant you just edit and save them again? Wont that push them through the parser again?

WILL

I'd have to un-publish them and then bypass the date time stamps. Otherwise all the information collected will be lost too.

Make a backup of the stats.

Bypass the release time. Edit and save.

Change the release time back to where it was. Restore the Stats.

? :)

umm... it's just quicker to do what I did.

All you have to do now it create new articles/pages and it'll work. I'm eliminating the third setting and keeping the Full HTML (HTML Only) setting for those that like to use HTML only.

As for the editor it's a bit twitchy though. I still have to work on it.

No problem - I've been doing that for the last 26 hours so its sort of second nature at the moment :)

Ok good news to everyone! I think I have finally fixed two major issues that have dogged PGD since Janurary.

First; I have added a comments feature to the Articles Section. Comments on Library items will be forth coming... Please go and read over those articles and leave your feedback!

Second; I have fixed that annoying bug that prevented you from using the single quote ' or the double quote " in your written articles. No longer do you have to worry about those sloppy " tags. :)
