I received a letter the other day from BenBE about his Omorphia project, which promises to take care of the nitty-gritty of the graphics and sound for you.

Here is the letter:
<center><table width=450><tr><td align=justify class='gensmall'>Hi,

Project Omorphia is being moving to a new server after about a year of existence, to improve developement of the project because of problems
maintaining the old server at www.de-schneider.de ('http://www.de-schneider.de/') which will be shut down in few months.

Now Project Omorphia is reachable at www.omorphia.de ('http://www.omorphia.de/') and www.omorphia.org ('http://www.omorphia.org/') and provides you besides the well-known forum with an enhanced webpage and a new Wiki system for project feature documentation. But we're sure that further extensions will follow soon.

The aims of Project Omorphia are the creation of a reference engine that source-independently runs many different 3D graphics and sound libraries, making the programmer fully concentrate on its project design rather than look&feel implementations. The library will contain its own VFS (e.g. for source-transparent access to archived files), well-designed Multimonitor Support, large mathematics and AI implementations as well as other great features (like the Scripting Engine providing full access to all program modules at runtime).

Project Omorphia mainly concentrates on implementing open interfaces (preferingly state maschine style), thus we are at first up on making OpenGL for graphics and OpenAL for Sound work. But for sure other libraries like SDL or even D3D for graphics and EAX or maybe DirectMusic support will follow as well as providing access to other open interfaces.

The current development is quite slow but will hopefully get faster anytime soon. The first image produced by Omorphia goes back some time and has been closed down for interface application, but will hopefully restored sometime soon.
