Well, talk about short product-cycles :
Borland just announced Delphi 2006 for a late 2005 release. As an addition it'll now also contain C++ Builder 2006, and together with Delphi, C++ and C# it'll be called (again) ''Borland Developer Studio''.

Here are some new things that are straight from the press release ('http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=112793&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=765728&highlight=') (copied over because of my pure lazyness) :
<ul>
New IDE productivity features
The ''Live Templates'' system enables users to tab through fields and insert points of any template, with an added "Smart Block" completion feature that anticipates and adds block closures as you type, and a new editor ''hange Bar'' that indicates modified lines and saved session modified lines.
Enhanced visual component library (VCL)
The upgraded VCL of Delphi 2006 provides easy graphical user interface (GUI) development with a large selection of GUI components. New ''Live Designer'' guidelines enable users to drag lines, margins, padding, with text-based alignment, and a new Flow Panel and Grid Panel offering HTML- and Table-style form layouts.
Extended IDE / ALM Integration
Delphi 2006 customers can take control of the development lifecycle process by leveraging integration with leading Borland ALM products including StarTeam(R) software change and configuration management, Together(R) modeling, and CaliberRM(TM) requirements management solutions.
[/list]
So within the next two months we have the next iteration of Delphi, and let's hope Borland get it right. D2005 was loved by some and hated by others, but it was by no means a bad product, it ''just'' lacked innovations and real additions that usually make you buy a new product. Though in my opinion, none of the stuff mentioned in the press release seems to be interesting for (hobby) game developers.

Borland seems to be aiming to confuse its customers, since it is promoting the one product (Borland Developer Studio 2006) as three separate products (Borland Delphi 2006, Borland C++ Builder 2006 and Borland C#Builder 2006).

Heh. I gave up trying to understand them after Delphi 7. :)

What's so confusing about it? :)
