I stumbled about the current Issue of the Escapist Magazine ('http://www.escapistmagazine.com') in a forum and this issue (#14) has some very interesting content for all you guys that like reading about the game business and all people that wonder how EA killed almost all inovations in todays computer gaming.

The most interesting story is ''The Conquest of Origin''</>, where a former member of the well-known and back then high-profile and innovative gaming company Origin talks about why EA bought them and how EA killed them. Most of you know about Origin and their great games, including the Wing Commander Series, Ultima, and it was a very sad moment when Origin was shut down (and if you're informed, you know that Bullfrog suffered from the same fate).

A quote from famous Warren Spector :
[i]''For the first couple of years, EA?¢_Ts acquisition of Origin changed the place for the better in nearly every way. EA brought some much needed structure to our product greenlight and development processes. And we certainly got bigger budgets! We were able to do more and cooler things than we?¢_Td been able to do before. In most ways, though, EA gave us a lot of rope - enough to hang ourselves, as it turned out!''

This is a very interesting read and the online magazine is also available as a PDF ('http://www.escapistmagazine.com/pdf/14') for offline-reading.

Not rally gone, absorbed by EA, it?¢_Ts spirit still lives on with Lionhead studios, which Peter Molyneux formed after leaving Bullfrog.
