Hello,
here is another WIP ;)

This game's name is: Diamond Hunter.

Story:
You're a diamond hunter (really?!) that blows up mountain to find
diamonds into them, avoid rocks and grab diamonds to become rich :P

Controls:
Enter - Enter menu sections
Esc - Exit menu sections/Game
Space - Grab Diamonds

This game comes from a mini games serie i'm working on, something
like Wario Ware Inc for the GBA or, to make it simple, a serie of
games ala "Game&Watch" renewed :)

In fact it will have 2 game modes, game A and game B:
Game A - Unlimited time, go for the highscore;
Game B - You have to grab a variable number of diamonds in a different
amount of time (difficult increases)

In this WIP there's only Game A by default and even not complete.

Forgot to say that the engine is the same as Babu Puzzle as you could
see, developed with Delphi5+DelphiX ;)

Well, as written earlier, I have played your game again.

This game has come up a few times now here on PGD. I believe cairnswm made one not too long ago and I also seem to recall a version with a yellow truck, though I'm not too sure on that one.

Anyways I thought your version was done quite well. The graphics are again pretty good. They give the game a nice feeling. The music however is just plain horrible. It made me immediately look for an options panel to turn it off. Regretably such option does not appear to exist.

While playing, a few other things came to mind.
Because I had played some other versions earlier, I was expecting to catch the diamonds automatically. When this didn't happen I thought it was a bug, I then read that I had to catch them using the spacebar. I take it this was done on purpose? While this is perfectly okay, I do would like to make a note of this. Generally players tend to skip the intructions. Especially with remakes of games they already know.
Don't change things people have come accustomed to. It won't do your game any good. In this particular case it's not that big of a deal, but in your next game such a change might.

Another thing I noticed is the collision between the guy and the boulders.
The shaking of the head is a nice touch. Problem is that when there are two boulders right after eachother I loose two lives, because I can't get away on time. You really should change that.

Just as the little guy needs some time to take a breather, give the player some time too. After the guy has been hit, let all other boulders/gems fall, but don't drop any new ones. Then, either present the player with a 'press space to continue' or continue the came on itself after a few seconds.
That way the player has a bit of time to realize what has happend and prepare for the next round.

Its probably still on your list, but I'm unable to save my score.

Another minor issue is the way the boulders disappear off the screen. You should either have them break apart on the floor or let them move completely outside the viewers screen. Currently they just disappear, which seems a bit odd to me.

Aside from these issues its a nice game, a nice addition to your other projects.

Thanx. The gfx is not our as my gfx artist is very busy so I used some
stuff from RPGMaker resources. The midi on my sound card sounds very
nice but I can understand it's absolutely not your taste so I've added the
option to enable/disable music, as I already done on Babu Puzzle. (Did
you (all) played the latest version with bugfixes you suggested?)

In case you don't know you'll be able to do it by PgUp/PgDn keys.

Yes, it was on purpose. Simply because I thought it was too simple only
to move left and right, but I'll go back to that choice. Also I've changed
that diamonds stays on the ground for a couple of seconds before
disappearing so that you can be quick and pick'em up anyway.

About that I agree, but as it's a wip it wasn't implemented yet ;)
Same for the highscores. I've the code already but I didn't finish to
paste it in.

I'm thinking about something similar to diamonds as said above. They
disappear because I didn't yet prepared the animations where they got
broken but I find nicer that they fall to the ground and not below the game
area.


Aside from these issues its a nice game, a nice addition to your other projects.

Ehehhe aside from ALL these issues it COULD be a nice game, I hope so
when it will be finished ;) An update will come soon!

Constant random rock throwing is a bit annoying and there are situations where you just can?¢_Tt escape, especially with those fast rocks. Maybe instead of appearing out of nowhere, rocks should be thrown by someone or something, so the player can predict where they?¢_Tll be falling.

UPDATE:

Some fixes:
-removed the space bar keypress to catch diamonds (now automatic)
-added some animations (rocks make dust falling, points when catching diamonds etc...)
-added PgUp/PgDn to enable/disable music
-slowed down a bit
-more diamonds
-less rocks
-changed menu (GAME A, GAME B but only GAME A available)

I'll study something to make it funnier, but I'm thinking about addons like
helmet to protect from rocks, different diamonds and so on. I'm still
working on it at least ;)

I'm getting normally a score around 1200-1500-1800 (120-150-180 gems).
I already got the idea to give an/more extra life/lives maybe around 1000
points? The thing i would avoid is to gain too much lives. The game have
to finish someday :P

In your opinion, is better to make extra life falls like gems and you have
to catch it or on a certain score or every xxx amount of points?

Anyway I'll add some extras too as I said in the previous post, actually
working on helmet ;)

A helmet is a good idea. The extra life should fall down, I would say, perhaps lie on the ground longer than the other stuff. :D

Hey... neat game!

Hmm... maybe if you had a one time use weapon or something that you could toss up in the air to 'blast' a bunch of falling rocks or something too.

Also maybe some running shoes or something to increase the speed of your guy below.

Maybe a special bonus game/round can be played if you collect a set of dimonds or instead 'gems' that spell a word or something. Then the game will pause for a bonus round where you play a different kind of challange or something? Could spice things up a bit...

The bonus game could be inside a cave where you are in a mine cart dodging rocks or something...

Just to give you more to do than just dodge the rocks. Like little goals to complete. Maybe collect a special item to proceed to the next level. Shovel, blast caps, helmet, boots, etc...
