Hello,

right now I am doing some marketing for Commando Xenidis.

I know of 3 german (how do you call it?) print media magazines that come with DVD and/or CD with game demos on them.

I visited their websites and looked for their contact emails.

Then I have sent an email to each one with some data of Commando Xenidis and asked them to put the shareware version on their DVD/CD.

I did that for my older games and it worked everytime :)

So I don't know the foreign magazines names or contact data.

Please if you know such websites (were I can look for their email adresses) or even better email adresses themself, please list them here!

I think this would be an interesting thing for everyone who finishes a game. 8)

I'll start with 3 german adresses. :D

Hi Firlefanz,

please let us know how this worked with Commando Xenidis. I will buy a copy of the mags when they are out with your game. Please post the release date (if they publish it).

Greetings,
Dirk

@Huehnerschaender: Got the first reply now, Gamestar puts it on one of their next CD/DVD, the next one would be 05/2006. :D

I am anxious to see if they say something about the game and if then more people play and perhaps buy it. 8)

I released v1.1 last week and the price is now 10€.

Very good news.
I will buy the magazine to take a look at it, too. It would be great if they put a little article about your game in the mag.
Thats a very good start I think.

And also the lower price could convince more people to buy your game.

Perhaps take a look at the DVD contents first, I am not 100% sure it will be on the next one, they told me on a DVD/CD as soon as possible, maybe the next one. :D

Hello,

Commando Xenidis will be in the german 'Gamestar' that comes out tomorrow, see bottom right under Extras: :D

http://www.gamestar.de/magazin/heft/052006/dvd.pdf

Does nobody have some contact data of other PC Game magazines?

What's the name/hompage of non german Games newpapers with DVD?

Thanks,
Firle

Hi Firle,

I got the GameStar 5/2006. I can see the name Commando Xenidis on the DVD-Cover. But I can't find the game on the DVD.
Can you tell me why?

Greetings,
Dirk

PS: Sad that they don't mention the game with a single word in the magazine.

I don't have it here.
I think it was under extras.

Somebody at gamestar forums also told me it is not on the DVD.

Seems it is only on the XL version of the DVD (that's the one I bought and it is on it).

It is also the 1.0 version instead of the 1.1 and not mentioned in the magazine, too bad.

Hm, too bad that the magazine publisher don't really care about what they put on their DVD. I bought the magazine without knowing that there's a difference between the DVD and XL-DVD version. As far as I know they also have a version without DVD, a version for adults only, a version.....

Where's the sense putting a shareware game only on the XL version of the mag? I don't understand it. And then, why is the game mentioned on the cover when it's not on the DVD of my mag-version.

Anyway, did you already get some response through this? Any customers came out of it?

Hi!

In the forum of Gamestar one User also complained about it that the Game is not on the 'standard' DVD I told him to look under Extras, he said it is really not on the DVD and this was the result.

I am happy I bought the right one, I had both on my hands and it was the same cover for both.

I do not know if this is an error or if this is how they want it to be.

Sad for me because I think most people get the 'standard' DVD without CX on it, grrrr"!$§"$

Did you already got response from other magazines?

Is there any response in sells to the publication on the DVD XL?

Hi!

We still only sold 1 piece

I absolutely cannot understand, Xenidis (the old) was the same gameplay and sold about 50 times, we now have much better grafix and more stuff to buy now, Online Hiscores etc.

I can understand some people say in the beginning it is a bit boring, but in the 1.1 version you can collect randomly (and automatically collect the first item ever) an overkill item that gives you fantastic firepower, and in the later game you can buy lots of stuff, so you can have lots of weapons and stuff, our team loves the game and the beta testers who really took some time to try also like or love it.

I absolutely do not understand why nobody buys it.

Maybe this is because you get every professional game that is 2 years old for only a few dollars/euros.

The next game will have a unique gameplay and will not be like CX a game with lots of similar games I promise.

It is very bad it is only on the XL DVD which reaches only a few people I guess.

The other magazines did no reply at all, I wrote to 3 german and one US magazine and still it would be nice to get some emails or weblinks to non-german magazines. :D

Ouch... that's bad news.
Maybe you should decide other ways to make the public recognize your game at all. As you said, the XL version of the DVD reaches only few people as it seems. I think many stores did not offer it, because I've never seen the XL version in a store.

What about internet shareware providers? Did you test something like that?

Greetings,

Dirk

PS: I know that it must have been hard and long work to complete Commando Xenidis. Of course you did not make it to become rich, but only one sold copy is somewhat unsatisfying I guess.... I think its the lack of advertisement. I wish you the best for this game, don't give up.

Hi Huehnerschreck :D

We sell it using ShareIT (Element5) and that worked very well for the other games so I think this is not the problem.

If you search for 'Commando Xenidis' in Google you'll find many many sharewaresites where you can download it.

I am still searching for other options, if anybody has an idea or other sites, adresses etc let me know.

Perhaps I must give it more time, the game is still pretty new.

The banner exchange with Athena was a good idea, too bad my grafix maker has no time right now to create some banners for our 3 games.
