I recent post on these forums :D recently brought up a question that I've always had about decoding video --as in a video file or video stream-- from it's source and then making frames that you can then display or work with.

This has always been something of a mystery to me, although probably very simple in concept and theory. So those of you that know something about the basic theory of working with video, please feel free to give us uninitiated ones a small primer. :)
