Useless? Useful? What do you think about it? :D

Totally cool!
I want to have that for WinXP :D
So I can have my own desktop totally disarranged.
And throw icons over it when I am frustrated, where do I get it?

I think it might catch on once you get used to it. I think it's fairly cool, though the proof of the ease of use is in the eating.

This is like the Minority Report interface. Couple that with an Eye Toy and it can be done in real-time infront of your computer. Though you may look a little strange waving your arms about in fron of your computer in the office.

I think it's useless, but totally cool!
Would be more cool when you can trow your object off the plane :P

Do you think they'll insist that users have a PhysX card to be able to run that desktop?
so... how do you know what each icon does? theres no filenames

It's a prototype / proof of concept (POC), hence the lack of frills like filenames.
You can read more about the project here - http://honeybrown.ca/Pubs/BumpTop.html where he says that they plan to extend it and add things like filenames etc.
For me the biggest thing would be for them to get rid of the pen interface and get back to using a mouse.

Wow, this is probably the best implimentation and attempt of a 3D desktop, I've seen yet.
And to think, all it took was some development in the way of physics and interaction between small file-like objects. (Of course the larger screen resolutions and processing speed helps quite a bit too!)
