Essentialy my current monitor is about to die any time soon (either he or me because of all this flickering). i am going to this time buy something better, and i cannot decide between two LCD monitors:

LCD 19" Samsung SyncMaster 940BW Silver HAS
4MS response time, 500:1 contrast
1440 x 900

LCD 17" Samsung SyncMaster 731BF
1280 x 1024
2MS response time, 600:1 contrast

So, which one is better for gaming and programming? does that 2 Ms response time difference between them actually matter?

Well, I've got a 12ms LCD monitor at home.. I personally don't notice any lag, but real HARDCORE gamers might notice...

The 19" monitor has a great aspect ratio and res for work while the 17" monitors seams to be deigned more for gaming.

Personally I prefer CRT (better response time, better res, better contrast better price), but if you need to decide between those two I’d say go for the 19”.
My father has an 8ms LCD monitor and the FPS games looked good, you can notice the blur only if you look for it.

Where I work we all have the 19" Samsung SyncMaster 940wm which also has a PiP TV Tuner. I have not tried many games on it, but it does the job so far and I am really getting used to the WideScreen format when using the Delphi IDE, so am thinking of getting one for home but probably without the TV Tuner as the quality of the TV reception is very average, but for computing it's a very sharp image, from what I can tell.

Seems like the widescreen is winning, at least, i'll be able to write code without breaking long declarations to multiple lines

tried that with CRTs, didn't work out so well. and the power consumption was like the power counter disc was spinning that it would eventually take-off and fly out out.

edit: yeah, and i didn't like looking into the monitor edge, which was like 2 * 5 Cm width.
