So I destroyd my servers hard disk drive :(

Formating takes way to long, I can write files to the disk, but I can't access all the files (Data error: cyclic redundancy check)

Even within the bios my computer complains about the disk. It says backup you data and replace disk. So it's kind a serious problem.

However the disk doens't have any important stuff on it.... (I formatted it altrough)

Is there any way to fix it (except buying a new disk?)

I guess the answer may depend on the make and model of the drive. If its one of the old IBM Deathstars, then I recall seeing somewhere that you could download a utility and tweak the drives onboard settings to slow its seek down (it requires reformatting) to stop the problem.

Ultimately though I think anything you can do to a drive like that is only going to be a temporary fix and the best advice would be replace it ASAP.

is it ntfs? i know for someone on freenode irc server in #reactos who has a lot of knowledge and success on such data recovery.

if its making a clicking noise, then wrap it up in a sandwich bag and put it in the freezer :D once you have let it defrost, it will work for a few more hours ;)

but normally, if the drive has gone all you want to do is get data off it and get a new drive

sandwich bag and put it in the freezer Very Happy once you have let it defrost

That sounds cool... it's that thers no data left on the disk, but I'll remember that :)
Its not making any click-sounds or something like that.

How much did that cost? Sounds massive!

They'd be around 100 € or 65£ (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/search.asp?q=western+digital+320+gb)
