Hey everyone... Francesco and I have been keeping this our little secret until today, Christmas, yay! :D

This is the first NDS Demo with graphics and audio! The snow was originally me, along with the background graphics. Legolas ported it for NDS and added music and audio and Santa! ("touch" the stylius to see what I mean. ;))

We both recommend using the Dualis emulator to run the rom as it runs everything well.

Francesco unfortunately was unable to get memory access to the bottom half of the NDS so no falling or piling snow until he can figure out how we access the bottom half as it was ment to work. We are currently working to improve the current WIP that we now offer as a christmas present to you all. Overall pretty impressive for it's early development, no? :)

You can get Dualis can be downloaded from here: Link (http://www.ndsemulator.com/nintendo-ds/dualis-download.htm)

And download our christmas present to all of you at PGD here: Download (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/will/Snow_Demo_NDS.zip) 1.12 MB

"HoHoHo! Have you been a good boy?" :P
Well, as Jason has said, this is a little present for you! Nothing too fancy yet, because we had this idea a couple of days before Christmas :)
It needs a lot of improvements: for example, the snow stops falling after a while and does not pile down :?
The tune it's a wav conversion from a xm module that Jason has found somewhere, but in the next versions I'm confident to find a way to play the xm module itself :)

Any tip for a good Linux based emulator?

When I double click on dualis.exe I get...

---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
LoadLibrary failed for arm9.dll.
Error code = 0000007E.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Any ideas?

I wish I could play it, but alas, I dont have the required hardware.

Are there some screenshots available?

Here's a screenshot:

http://itaprogaming.free.fr/img/snowdemo.png

The Santa's sprite follows your tap on the touch screen and says "Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas...":P
The background tune is "Let it snow".

Savage: it works on no$gba (http://nocash.emubase.de/gba.htm) too

Try DeSmuME (http://sourceforge.net/projects/desmume) :)

That one seems to be carved from better wood. Nice demo! :D

Its perhaps a bit late for Christmas, but send this to that contact at Nintendo. This is exactly the kinds of things that can convince people to grant a license.

This really could be a _BIG_ Christmas present for us...

I hear that lik-sang has closed down due to presure.
 Where else can I order the necessary cables and roms to be able to upload stuff to my son's christmas present ;)?

 Is there a cable that would work for both GBA and DS?

Btw, when using no$gba it only shows the santa when you click on the lower part of the screen.

It would be great if there was an SDL function wrapper around all the GBA and DS stuff. Would certainly simplify development of the games/apps.

http://divineo.com/ is a good starting point. The nds does not have any cable available. :(

That's strange... It works fine here, at least with ver. 2.3

So are there any flash carts that work on both NDS and GBA?

I believe that Legolas has a banner on his site for one...

Am I right in assuming that http://www.neoflash.com/ is what you want for making carts of your roms?

Yep! Almost all slot2 flash carts are for gba and nds. I have a M3 SD, that works pretty fine, but requires an SD memory card. If you already have a digital camera that uses SD/CF memory cards, then M3 could be a good choice. On the NDS you will need a passcard too, in order to jump the "genuine check".
About neoflash, these carts are buggy and poorly supported from homebrew community, so I don't think it is a good buy :?

So hows that source comin'? :P

Legolas

*ouch* I completely forgot to post it, sorry...

Ok, I have uploaded the sources here (http://itaprogaming.free.fr/download/snowdemo_src.zip) (1.06 MB)
All that graphic stuff was converted by usenti, in the same manner as it is done for gba (more infos on fpc4gba tutorial (http://itaprogaming.free.fr/tutorial.html)).
The "Let it snow" tune was a mod file converted in wav by Open ModPlug Tracker; all wav samples have been converted to raw data with SOX (http://sox.sourceforge.net/), by using

sox -V let_it_snow.wav -r 11025 -s let_it_snow.raw
sox -V hohoho.wav -s hohoho.raw

then I have converted the raw files in .o files with bin2s and arm-eabi-as.

That's all :)
