A few months ago, I saw this (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/viewtopic.php?t=2911) theme about Xtropper game. I liked it so much that I have downloaded the source and started modifiying it. Now the game really differs from Xtropper and I have big plans about it's future development ). But, some graphics are still grabbed from Crimsonland ;) And so, now I decided to show my game to the people. Let it be a New Year present =).

Well the game concept is neat. :)

These spiders are coming to eat you so blow up as many as you can to stay alive. :D

Kind of reminds me of the DGDev Team's game 'Horrorween'.

Any plans for designing underground base or tunnel levels and maps? This would be a really fun game if you guys expanded on the basic idea. Not just roaming the bare desert of the moon, but if there was a base there and underground tunnels and structures that where invaded by big nasty space bugs that you now have to fight your was out of...

You know... it also kinda reminds me of Aliens. (The second movie.) :D

Hey that's very nice! :D

A few things you might want to look into:
Setup
Set the frequency default to 60mhz. I know my screen is maxed at 60mhz (laptop), but I'm sure quite a few people dont know or forget to set it properly.

When I select a non-fullscreen window, half the gui is missing. (click img below)

game
I assume it has to do something with points, but at certain intervals the entire spiderpopulation is suddenly killed off. How come?

When I die, I dont see how many kills I've made, but instead there's an image of the grim reaper. Its an interesting picture, but I really prefer the kills so I can brag about it :)

Apart from these,.. I'd like to see more weapons, more explosions (grenades?) different critters and other landscapes.

Good start though !

I liked XProgger's game and I like this as well. I am waiting for the campaign mode.

I think there is a power up that kills all the spiders. The screen flashes white and the bugs are gone.

Btw. It would be good to know the effects of different power ups.

Thanks for reports! Default refresh rate is now set to 60 hz and windowed mode also works properly. Frags, experience and seconds survived are now also shown after the player's death ).

A small bonus reference:
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3140/bonwepspeedef4.jpg Weapon powerup. Increases weapon firerate.

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9048/bonspeedhw9.jpg Speed. Now you can run faster (pay attention on the smoke downside =) )

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6638/bonslowmoci0.jpg Slow motion. Makes thing really slooow, giving you a chance to react better.

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9928/bonshieldzs7.jpg Shield. You are unvulnerable. For a while ).

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3120/bonnukemd7.jpg Nuke. Kaboom! Everything explodes...

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2786/bonmedkitle3.jpg Medkit. Regenerates 30 hp.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7760/bonfreezeth2.jpg Freeze. Spiders just stand still, even being damaged.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5800/bonexpx2lx3.jpg Doubler. Doubles all experience you gain during the time this bonus is active.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6356/bon1000ptsdd9.jpg 1000 points. Simply gives you 1000 experience points.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1252/bon500ptsln3.jpg 500 points. Guess what it does =).

Im surprised no one complained about it, when starting the setup.exe I get a “0,5 is not a valid number” error.
Correcting “MapDetail=0,5” in config.cfg will solve that problem. When I start the game the music starts following the annoying windows error sound with the same error message. (it will happen even if i set MapDetail to 1)

Here (http://rapidshare.com/files/9711387/spiderland3d_035fix1.ZIP.html) is the patch that fixes all described bugs: default setup refresh rate is set to 60hz, windowed mode works properly, floating point conversion errors are fixed and results are now shown after the player's death.

Sorry I prefer the original it was a lot smoother on my system and it had a rough simple charm, which has been lost.

Got it working...

I survived: 745 seconds
I fragged: 3197 spiders :)

In Rush mode. It appears you can stand on one spot and shoot them all!

Very neat game.. Graphics and music are very nice. :)

I'm not very good at this game... i can stay alive a few minutes.
Rush-Mode is in my oppinion a bit useless: people with good system-specs like NecroDOME can stay alive forever while people with low system-specs like me are killed within a minute :)

Like traveller and a few others said: a few more levels and weapons, and of course tunnels and that kind of stuff could make the game a lot more fun.

I like the music very much... is there a way to convert it to MP3 so i can listen to it using a media-player. A Winamp plugin for S3M files would also suffice.

Good luck with further development... You've made a nice start ;)

EDIT: i dont know whether this game has FPS-independent-movement. if not, implementing it can make rush-mode a little more interesting. :)

WinAmp can already play s3m(and mod, xm & it) files. :) Just open it in WinAmp. Or... get the ModPlug Tracker at ModPlug.com and convert it. :)

Ohw the S3M extension was not listed on the supported extensions list in the open dialog.. weird :?

When i used *.* and opened the file, it played :)

(You can associate all module formats with WinAmp in the Options, but it's not done by default as some prefer to use their own tracker to open them. It uses the mikmod plugin for playback.)

Speaking of which... what does your game use for module playback?

Have you noticed bass.dll in game dir :D ? I use it to play all types of music, though, I'm planning to use only Ogg Vorbis instead.

Nice work ZimM, I like how you've built upon the game XProger put together. I managed to reach some 280k points and 1.7k spider-kills.
