Hello,

I have put some new screens on our project page:
http://www.ericbehme.de/magicstorm/the_innominate_screenshots.html

There is also a small description there. Too tired to post one here, I will do that later. 8)

Wow! :o
That looks very promising!
When do you think will be available a beta?

Very cool! :)

Yet at the same time very very big! Can you please reduce the images to be no larger than 800 pixels wide? Thanks :)

Game looks great I'd definitely love to see a small video clip if you guys can make one up. (And I'll put a copy up under the PascalGameDev channel on YouTube for you as well! Can't go wrong with free advertising huh? ;))

Beta this or next month.
Can't you reduce the screen size automatically?
I've seen that in other forums. :D

Firle, this is phpBB and not other forums, so no. Not without some heavy modifications I hear.

It looks pretty good so far. What strategy influences are in your RPG, Firle? I'm curious now, since it seems (visually so far) to be your average third person RPG.

May I suggest the use of HTML to reduce the size of images.

Firlefanz

Thanks for making them smaller.
Delphidev.de is a german phpBB forum and if you put an image there like I did it fits to the screen.

The game has RPG elements but is not a RPG it is a genre mix with some Strategy elements.

You need to defend the village and save the villagers from the innominate by setting obstacles and traps and fighting them...

Beta

I think it is half-finished. Still a lot of work to do.

Comments welcome. :D

Firle

PS: The spikey from the topic above will get some more poly and the UV map will be optimized. Then it will look very cool I think.

Please use config.exe to set Resolution, Sound Volume etc.
Try AA off and a resolution you can work with.

It works over here, but not as supposed I guess. First it takes ages to load stuff and it takes up a lot of memory.

When I finally get into the game (where the character walks towards the throne) it's already using 400 MBytes of memory and it seems that you have some memory leaks in there as memory consumption is steadily growing all the time. In addition to that it runs very choppy which is espcially visible in that introduction where the character walks, and I also have a lot of objects that don't have textures and are just white (mostly the foliage).
And ingame (the setup-phase also didn't work correct) the animations of the character are very choppy and are also way to slow for the walking speed.

And I also can't quit the game. If I click on quit it just hangs and I have to kill it using the taskmanager.

Other than that it looks nice and reminds of an old dos game called The Horde (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/horde).

Sorry, my mistake, I was working on something and had Direct3D switched to Debug mode. Beta started normally with Direct3D in Release mode although FPS were quite low (15-40 on Core 2 Duo with Radeon X1950). I managed to clear the area of Innominates but I didn't understand that village customization stage.

The village customation is working so far you can set a church or even some pet (using cursor keys and space to set if there is enough space) but nothing happens with that. And this scene is also looking bad I will replace the buttons with 2d buttons soon...

@Sascha: Strange indeed. There may be memory leaks I have to find, but I know nothing about missing textures.
Perhaps try setting 'Textures detail' with config to the mid value this might cause the problem.

Yeah, that fixed the white objects, they're now rendered correct. But the other problem still persist, especially the very long loading times, high memory consumption (more than some modern games like Armed Assault) and choppiness hinder the gamplay.

Firlefanz

Yes it is a beta only 50% finished.
I just wanted to show some progress ;)

If you have any ideas how to reduce loading times
or more important how to determine the memory consumption let me know.

I guess some textures are too big.

First attempt making a promo movie just for testing.
Will look and sound much better in a few months :)

Looking good so far :) Surely needs some directors work :) But it shows much of your finished gameplay.

One thing:

What the heck are the 2 villagers at movie time 2:20 doing? *rofl*

Firlefanz

Hehe. The animations are all not finished yet.
The "standing" animation of the villagers ia a bit ...strange lol :D

Heard the same also from somebody else lol :D

Looks like a great start. The rocking back and forth motion either makes them look like crazy people or a bit odd in the grass.

Hi!

This is my mighty KI! The villagers are making children while not beeing attacked! lol :D

Nope the animations need a workover. Also the player striking and walking is a bit strange.

I am just proud because everything works now, I need a lot of polishing now. :)

Hey thats pretty cool. I like the intro, very polished looking. (though could do without the FPS in the final 'trailer' ;))

If it's not too blasphemous a suggestion, might I offer the idea of making more than 1 attack animation just for variety? Doesn't have to effect that actual area of damage or anything, just to mix up the visuals and make combat interesting. :) 3 normal attacks might do it. And if you do have a random critical hit feature 2 or so additional animations might be good too.

I think at this point you'd be sending your undead army after me if it were a 2D game, but since it's 3D, I'm guessing it's only a matter of greating the movement with the same model, no?

Anyhow looks great so far guys, keep up the great work.

Hi!

Yes the monsters will also get an additional running sequenz.

The players walking needs a workover and of course more strikes etc, we planned 20 different animations for the player if my animation maker has enough time :)
