I am pleased to announce that the new showcase site www.delphigamer.com is now available.

DelphiGamer (http://www.delphigamer.com) is partnering with Savage Software Solutions (http://www.savagesoftware.com.au/games/) and Pascal Game Development (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com) to provide a number of services for developers writing games in Object Pascal (Delphi/Free Pascal/Chrome).

These services include

A Free showcase for freeware/demo/shareware products
Low cost hosting services for members of the PGD community through Delphi Gamer Hosting Services (http://hosting.delphigamer.com).
Commercial services where Savage Software Solutions will sell your game for you and DelphiGamer will showcase the Freeware/demo versions.
Help and Advice on getting your game ready for Freeware/Shareware or Commercial release.

More details can be found on the site. We are looking for more games to showcase so please PM technomage (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=201) if you want your game considered. By default the winners of each PGD Annual will be approached, but any one developing game that looks promising could be approached.

If you are interested in selling you game commerically please contact Savage Software Solutions (http://savagesoftware.com.au/games/index.php?main_page=contact_us) directly.

In addition for a limited time a special PGD Coupon is available which will allow you to get Basic hosting (http://hosting.delphigamer.com/basic.htm) services even cheaper (e.g £1.5 p/m rather than £2 p/m). PM technomage (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=201) for more details.

This is really cool news!

One slight problem though,... the layout is not working for me (ie 7.0). The main content part is located beneath the rest of the site.
I've added a screenshot

Thanks Traveller :(

I think I hate IE  . It's the only rendering engine in the world that doesn't obey w3c standards...

users using IE you'll have to bear with me while I try to fix this.

In the mean time if you have firefox, it works very well in that :D

Hey Dean, nice! :)

I was wondering when this announcement was coming out.

2 recommendations though. Use the PGD official logo instead of the cropped header graphic. And rename Iron Strike to TANX as they are different games. (Dispite that it's the same engine under different evolutionary timeframes) Iron Strike was never released.

Thanks WILL, I've made the modifications for Tanx.

can you PM me a link to the office PGD logo please :D

I fixed the site problems. Oddly I needed to put

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

At the top of my main page and this fixed the problem. This must force IE to use the w3c standards I guess. :?

Let me know the max width or hight you need and I'll make one of the right size and format for you. The original is really really large ;) Also do you want a background matte or will transparent do? IE might have issues with transparent PNG still.

<DOCTYPE>

Yeah, I've ran into this. Apparently IE forces some of the standards that are supposed to be optional huh? :P

Coooool 8)

There are still people asking me where they can download Tanx :) I will direct them to delphigamer from now on :)

I remembered being asked for permission like, ages ago... Nice to see it finally coming online :)

Well, if you don't specify a doctype IE will consider it prey to the HTML 4.01 standard, IIRC. Even then there are some sizing quirks, but nothing an override stylesheet just for IE won't fix.

Glad to see the site go online again! You look to have done a good job on it.

This-is-fantastic!

I'm going to polish some of my games and send them ASAP!

Question: will be possible to add links like highscores, project page (that
links to the thread in Your Project forum) and so on?
In other words, there will be the chance to customize the games pages?

Technomage you'll soon receive some PMs from me ;)

Question: will be possible to add ]

Currently the project pages are written up by me, the main reason for that is it's a review of sorts, rather than being written by the develper. That said I am willing to put links to project pages/web sites in there so people can get updates etc. any person wanting to include site links let me know when you submit the game for consideration. :)

So, now that the site is live, how do we get our games added to it. I wouldn't mind getting the few I have added to help bulk out the site in general. I'd also like to cross link kids.eonclash.com to DelphiGamer in the cases were there are kids games built in Delphi/Pascal.

Check out http://www.delphigamer.com/main.php?p=contact It gives you the info you need, it depends on whether it's a freeware/shareware or if you want to got commercial. :D

Basically for freeware / shareware games, just PM me with the details and we'll take a look :D

ok i've looked to the contact page on DG, now, what do you expect from
a "very high quality" game?. Which are the criteria you use to decide
which is worth or not? :)

For example i'd like to submit improoved versions of Babu Puzzle and
Invasion (this with 2 skins, custom and ripped) both with online highscores,
fully functional and mostly bugs free. (see http://www.fnxgames.com games and wip page).
Plus a third one currently under development
but i'm going to submit only when it will be finished (a puzzle shoot'em up).
(... yes i got a very nice idea exactly when compo was over hhehehe)

Any info is much appreciated :)

That is a very good question. :D

Just to point out it doesn't have to be the latest shader technology or stuff like that. but it does need to polished.

When I say polished for me that would mean something like

Has a logo/Splash screen
A menu system which will allow users to edit settings
Good game play
Good graphics for that type of game
Shouldn't crash.

I guess if you condiser the criteria that the PGD Annual competitions are judged on , that is what we are looking for.

I would like to point out that we do want lots games for the site, but remember it's a showcase , it showing the best of what we as a community can do. Myself and Dom (and I'm sure others) are willing to help polish games and give advice.

Put it another way, if someone who writes C++ says to you " you can't write good games in Pascal" you should be able to point them at www.delphigamer.com and say "can't right good games in Pascal eh!".

So don't be put off, and like I said we can help for example if your worried about your graphics we can help or put you in touch with someone who can.

Dom - what are your thoughts?

:D

As Dean says, this is a showcase site, so there obviously needs to be some criteria that defines "Best in Show". I think, we are looking for the level of quality you would expect from a game that you would probably pay money for ( not necessarily AAA title type of money ). So all criterias that Dean mentioned, are what I would expect.

Maybe something that hasn't been asked before --probably because it's automatically assumed by it's very nature-- is the criteria limited to indie games or would non-indie companies be included to the list too? ie. Age of Wonders demos from Triumph Studios, etc..

technomage
19-06-2007, 07:16 PM
I don't think we mind...

Non Indie as well as Indie.. :D

WILL

I was just thinking that the whole AoW series would make a great trio for showing off. So would the SoA project, should the Open Source version eventually grow legs.

But you'd of course have to contact Triumph for permission to host their demos no?

By Indie I mean a company that works only part time or is so small they cannot be considered a big commercial company like EA or Blizzard or even Bethesda or id Software.

Well the site's been up a week and here are the current download counts

Air Blast 43
Tanx 55
Jagdgeschwader 25

For those of your who have posted your games to me, i will be looking at them as soon as I can (I'm having to work overtime this weekend as my day job has a release next week :( )

Just a reminder about the hosting services hosting.delphigamer.com (http://hosting.delphigamer.com), if you are intested in getting some cheap hosting PM me. In addition to the money off coupon ( and after talking to others) I'll be upping the disk space for a basic account to 50 Meg for PGD memebers only :)

The money from the hosting services will go towards keeping the delphigamer.com (http://www.delphigamer.com) site running.

Another update, I'm thinking of putting these figures up on the site

Air Blast 95
Tanx 116
Jagdgeschwader 33

I'm still going through the submitted games so far, and waiting for feedback from some others. Hopefully my day job will calm down in the next two weeks so I can decidate some time to getting some more games up. :D

I've managed to write up a few more games this weekend.

Tanx is still leading the field on downloads over 250 since I posted it :)

Nice to see Dean! :)

I think that your full list of games could be sorted better though. Instead of A-Z why not try a few sorted list options like Newest - Oldest, Most - Least Viewed, Most - Least Downloaded, A - Z; By Genre, By Author, By Title, etc...

This way you pretty much guarantee that some games are showing instead of none, esp. while the list is still short.
