Engine Test 1 is based on my Real Relief demo. :)
You can load maps from Quark/Quake/Half-Life (".map" file format). Maps loaded from ".map" file is not optimized, no portal culling and no csg :(

Controls:
W,A,S,D - Move Camera
Space - Shot ( now work only with a single wall in WallTest.map ) :(
Mouse - Turn Camera
<,> - Music Prev, Next :D
F12 - Take ScreenShot
ESCAPE - Exit Demo

That's quite nice! It worked okay for me, except for the fact that a few textures were missing. I believe that also caused some artifacts on certain places in the level. Got a mere 60fps, but I believe that was due to the refresh rate.

Pretty good stuff... well done ;)

@Traveler: i also have 60 fps (it's the refresh-rate indeed).
I also saw the artifacts. I doubt it's because of missing texture, because i guess you would still render your geometry, but only without the texture. I guess you forgot to clear the backbuffer.

Most parts of the screen (where the geometry is) are redrawn when the next frame is rendered. When you have some gaps, those might still contain pixel data from the previous frame. So i guess you forgot te clear the backbuffer.

I am anxious to know about the ammount of triangles you render. Could you add a triangle count value next to the FPS?? A possibility to render the whole scene in wireframe would be an awesome option  Then we all get an idea about the high-polyness of the world geometry.

Keep up the good work ;)

It look very neat and detailed!!

I don't think artifacts are due missing textures. Normally if you don't set a texture, its just white!

The engine is not finished :)
q: why i dont clear background?
a: if scene is closed background is not visible :) in the next version i finish csg and you cant see artifacts on the walls any more :)

q: Could you add a triangle count value next to the FPS??
a: now i creating console.

about textures :
if i post all textures for all games the size of my engine can be above 1Gb :)
i have included only this textures :
50 735 -3fifties_f01.svTex
199 535 city2_6.svTex
50 733 fifties_flr5.svTex
16 214 fifties_wall14y.svTex
103 290 tex001.svTex
1 300 -3fifties_f01.jpg
11 140 city2_6.jpg
1 023 fifties_flr5.jpg
2 533 fifties_wall14y.jpg
18 722 sibvrv.jpg
31 246 tex001.jpg

btw. now i converting my old loader Quake 4/ Doom 3 to load maps in engine :)
new update is coming soon :)

Nice :). Is it possible to switch to wireframe-mode with this console? That'd be awesome :P

 Questions to all who testing engine :

:?: Do you have any problems with the wall "shot here" in WallTest.map ?
:?: Is music play normaly on your sound card ?
:?: Do you have a problems with map loading ?
:?: Cloth simulation is slow ? Or collision with cloth is not realistic ?
:?: What do you want to see in the next version ?

 it is realy can help me to fix all problems and make next version more friendly and fixable.

Hi,

After running your engine I got error message about lack of some textures:

CITY2_7, WMET4_8, CITY2_8 and so on. The error was not logged into the log, though.

Question Do you have any problems with the wall "shot here" in WallTest.map ?
It worked for me

Question Is music play normally on your sound card ?
Yes

Question Do you have a problems with map loading ?
Nope, except a message from missing textures, but it loads.

Question Cloth simulation is slow ? Or collision with cloth is not realistic ?
It worked and looked nice!

Question What do you want to see in the next version ?
- Wind to move closing (like a flag)
- Rocket launcher for wallshot
- Wireframe & triangle count
- DooM 2, map 1 :)

1) yep,.. it worked.

2) No,.. I did not hear any sounds or music :(

3) No, no problems there,.. apart from the message that certain textures could not be found, it worked okay,

4) Pretty, neat! Although it did appear to me as a bit stiff.

5) whatever you can come up with :)

I downloaded this to give it a try... WOW it's slow. :) Nice, but slow...

Brief system specs:

Pentium M 1.8 GHz w/ 512MB RAM
Radeon XPRESS 200M w/ 128MB (has shader 1.1) (http://www.delphi3d.net/hardware/viewreport.php?report=1597)

Ran engine at 800x600 32bits fullscreen. Got about 6.5 FPS on average.

Now would it be slow because of missing textures? I've had this issue before, it seems that when my OpenGL driver tries to load textures that are not there or are missing and this slows down the program's graphics a lot.

:?: Do you have any problems with the wall "shot here" in WallTest.map ?

Wall shoot what? Was there something I should have seen in this map file you included?

The walls looked to be ok. Relief mapping seems to be working and looks pretty nice.

:?: Is music play normaly on your sound card ?

Music plays well. Love the Jarre! ;) What formats does it support again?

:?: Do you have a problems with map loading ?

Not that I noticed. The map loaded and I was able to traverse the map quote well. Slow, but well enough to get the idea.

:?: Cloth simulation is slow ? Or collision with cloth is not realistic ?

I didn't even get to it. :? But judging from the speed of the map without even seeing this, I'd put my money on it not being very fast at all.

:?: What do you want to see in the next version ?

SPEED THIS PUPPY UP! :) Seriously, if I can play Unreal Tournament 2004 and AoE3 without any major speed issues, this thing should be as smooth as a baby's ass. :P

UMX playback from the Unreal engines! :D (if it's not already in)

Mouse interface for looking around. I'd eventually want the standard Unreal Engine type controls. ;)

A .map file without any missing textures (make some dumby ones that are very small) so that I can test to see if it's this texture issue that kills the program on my system.

Not bad so far, you just have to speed it up more!

WILL,.. I did not realize it either at first, but when the smaller window appears you can select a map. There's one with the cloth sample (clothtest), and one with a wall where it says 'shot here' (walltest).

Traveler what is your sound card ?

WILL, i have ~188 melodies of Jean Michel Jarre :) but i like Magnetic Fields and Oxygene, and about speed what map have you try to load ?

Amazing stuff :) Runs from 300+(simple room) down to 30 FPS (Quake Map) on my machine.

I really like the clothing demo.... thats cool!

The wallshooting seems to eat much performance. I get about 130 FPS when walking around and it drops down to 80 FPS when I shoot (press space).

But this whole demo is really impressive stuff! Keep it on!

Btw: Music is playing without any problems.
Specs:
Athlon 64 4000
2 GB Ram
Onboard Sound
Radeon X1600 Pro 256 MB
Windows XP SP2

Oxygene and Chronologie are my favorites, but Magnetic Fields is also very nice. :)

It was the one under the more 'obvious' sub directory... base/maps/Quake1_dm6.map Are there supposed to be other .maps files in here? :? It's the only one I see.

Well, it does, but not without problems. Installation is a bit tricky and does give some error messages, but they can mostly be ignored. The help function however doesn't work anymore, because the entire help system has been replaced with something else.
Fortunately it is possible to overcome that problem by following dr. Bob's (http://www.drbob42.com/examines/examin84.htm) guide.

Traveler

Not that I know of. But then, I'm not 100% up to date on the specifics.
But, apart from this minor problem and the one with D7, I've yet to have a serious problem with Vista. Then again,.. I'm not running any old hard- or software, so that kinda elimates 95% of all known vista problems.
