New forum, thought I might as well use it!!

I need help promoting DGDev. There's a thread about the subject here (http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/viewtopic.php?t=583).

What I would like is your suggestions on how to get more people here. The more members we have, the more useful the site will be (well that's the theory anyway).

So, ideas pleez :salute:

And for anyone wondering how it all started, clicky clicky click click (http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=121604) (look for the bit where I first appear :) )

On another forum I moderate we exchange banners/logos with other forums so a link to our forum gets shown on theirs and theirs gets shown on ours... However we do have a portal on that one, which means that ppl get to see a page with advertisement and information about the forum and the messages of the day and stuff and then they can click to go to the forums! :)

That's interesting :)

I don't know much about portals, could you give me a link for that site? There are a few portal hacks at http://www.phpbbhacks.com, might be worth a look

How about just mentioning it as much as you can. If you're on other forums, put a link in your signature. Whenever something pops up about games, Delphi, programming or whatever, mention DGDev.

And if you have a site, put up a link as well.

BlueCat : The site is in Dutch and has nothing to do with programming, but here is the link:

www.mrvandal.nl

hope it helps!

Maybe if we were to have a smaller DGDev logo made from the main logo @ the top of this page, everyone could use it for linking aswell/instead of just mentioning the game DGDev. For example, everyone instantly recognises the communist GameDev logo when they see it

Yeah just link to http://terraqueous.f2o.org/dgdev.gif and you'll get this http://terraqueous.f2o.org/dgdev.gif. Feel free to use it anywhere you like :)

TheLion: It's a good idea but I don't know if it would be worth it as the site has nothing to do with what we do here (at least I think it doesn't but I wouldn't know if it did!). I suppose you could just tell everyone you know there about us though

Shadowcore: That's another good one, if everyone here did that it would make a difference I'm sure.

I'm wondering how many anonymouses there are lurking here regularly, come on get registered I know you're out there

I have been working a lot on my website lately and if I get the change and see a good spot on my site then I'll place the DGDev logo and a link to it on my website! :)

BTW, the site I gave you for the portal has nothing to do with Delphi or Programming, but you asked for an example of a portal! :) I didn't say we had to do it or it would be a good idea, but its one of the few possibilities to exchange banners with other programming websites/forums ! :)

Yes but you have to realise you're not dealing with a sane person, you have to make allowances :viking:

the url is a bit intimidating - ever think about serving up a more savvy domain name? how much traffic passes thru here a month? I might be able to host it for free.

Blue, actually links anywhere WILL help you, with in search engine rankings. A big part of determining placement depends on how many links the engine's spiders can find around the web to your site.

Thanks for the offer, at the moment I get free hosting with f2o.org and a 3Gb/month limit. I think the most we ever had in a month was just over 1.5Gb

I've been thinking about registering dgdev.org or dgdev.net but don't have any spare cash for it at the moment

If anyone wants to donate a domain name and point it here then go for it!!

And just another reminder  for anyone who wants to add a link to their site:

http://terraqueous.f2o.org/dgdev.gif is the url and the logo looks like this http://terraqueous.f2o.org/dgdev.gif

Come on it only takes a minute!!!

Oh right, I forgot I know more about Domain Names than about Delphi so links seems to be forgotten ;-)

If people ask what TK is for, you just say it's short for "Total Knowledge"

I like it!

Shame I can't get past the 'Find your domain name now!' bit, I'll try it again later. Thanks for the idea, anything's better than the current url :)

Added a banner link to my computer game collectors website, if you want to pump me out a 200x40 (so it doesnt stretch the current one) i will replace it asap.

http://www.computergamecollector.com/games/

it's indexed pretty well in search engines, so it will count for a link towards your site pretty quickly.

Thanks for that :salute:

If you change that link to http://terraqueous.f2o.org/dgdev200.gif it should look a little better.

Thanks again for your help fitzbean :)

I can't help much (our site is not online yet), but I've tried to make something like an alternate logo for DGDev, tell me what ya think.
http://www.mor.itesm.mx/~al375780/dgdev.png
You can download it at http://www.mor.itesm.mx/~al375780/dgdev.gif (12Kb) and better quality http://www.mor.itesm.mx/~al375780/dgdev.png (32 Kb).

Wow thanks Lifepower, that looks great. I think most people would be happy to have that logo on their site.

Just signed up, dgdev.tk will now bring you here. You do get a popup but it is free so that's fair enough.

Thanks Eriken

You can choose to not have a banner somewhere under settings without having to pay anything. If I remember correctly you only get a banner if you participate in their link-exchange (which might not be such a bad idea if we want to get people to come here). Anyway, just though I should let you know.

DGDev.tk is actually quite populated, but the people do not post a lot - this has to change! Everyone has to post at least one post per week ;-) The advantage of this would be that newcomers would see that the community is active and that things are happening - ie a reason to stay here instead of straying off again.
