Each processor node in the Earth Simulator contains 8 vector processors running at 500MHz with 16GB of shared memory, and the total main memory in the machine is 10 terabytes. The operating system running on the supercomputer is NEC’s UNIX-based OS called “SUPER-UX” which is used on NEC’s SX Series of supercomputers

Woooooow!!!! $400,000,000???? That's quite a lot :S! And it has enough power to blow the International Space Station right outta orbit... Hehehe :D or at least do a simulation of it.

I wonder how much the one HP is making for DARPA will cost. ;) You know... the one that uses a trait within quantum physics in a device called the 'quantum switch'.
