How can I get into game design coming from a C and Java background?

I have complete some C and Java programming (http://www.ebosys.com/offshore-java-j2ee-development.html) and now I am interested in graphics and game design. What do I need to do in order to pursue this further? If any one can share any information regarding this with me it would be appreciated.

The best way I think is by just making a simple game. You could start by making "pong" or "pacman" clone. This should give you a nice and easy start if you're new to game development.
