  • pmG's "Dare To Share" $10 Challenge

You can buy messiahStudio5, a 3D rendering and animation software for just $10. The software comes in two separate editions Basic, going for $10 USD and Pro going for $40 USD. These products would normally cost you $499 to $1195 at regular price.

There is however one catch to the deal; You will only get your license to the purchased edition you chose if the company sells a fixed number of licenses during this challenge. The challenge is somewhat of an experiment, so in fairness to their customers if they don't make their goal, you'll get a full refund of your money instead.

Quote from the website: "This is the same software that studios and individuals, in more than 60 countries of the world, have been using to create visual effects for some of your favorite movies, commercials, games and music videos; and now you can get it at a no excuses price, if you "Dare To Share‚ΡΆ". People using our software have been nominated for Academy Awards, and changed their lives creating things they'd never thought possible on their own. CG Animated Features, Visual Effects, Consumer Product and Architectural Visualization, Simulation, Plugin Development, Smart Phone App Animation and Game Development Export; What will you do? "

I bought the pro version a couple days ago. It seems to work quite nice with Lightwave. (for insiders, there's mdd support, which means you can export your motions and use that in your LW scenes). Also, I hope people will create some tutorials, as they are quite rare atm.

Would it be possible to use animated characters in our own game projects? I'm not really familiar with skeletal animation and the fileformats that support it. Loading the animations into your own code will make it much more interesting ofcourse.

Still waiting for that money to appear on my paypal account (transferring it takes a couple of days )

You can buy using paypal without having funds in paypal. It just automatically credits your credit card.

Hmm... but I don't have a creditcard. I only "linked" my online bankaccount with paypal, but transfer still takes time. If I see that sales are going too fast, I'll probably ask someone else to buy it for me with a creditcard and i'll pay back later. However, if possible I want to pay myself ofcourse.

I have not tried the demo yet, but from what I understand and have read in several forums, export options are quite limited. The two most mentioned file types are fbx and mdd. The latter is mostly used in 3d animation packages such as Maya and Lightwave, while fbx is more commonly used in game engines. Unity for example. There is also directx support, but some have reported problems.

Again, I haven't seen it myself yet, so don't take this as 100% correct.

ah ok - I wasn't aware that that was possible. I thought it had to be linked to a debit or credit card

I decided to avoid the risk and just ask my bro to buy it with his creditcard. After taking the exchange rate of the dollar into account, it turned out to be an awesome deal. I really hope we'll reach that goal (Will take another day or two, I believe).

      Also read this:
Messiah's license is tied to a piece of storage hardware, like a hard drive or USB stick. If you tie it to your hard drive then you are confined to using Messiah on only that computer but if you tie it to a USB stick, Messiah becomes portable. Also, if you tie it to a hard drive, I'm not sure how complicated the license transfer process is in the event that you get a new computer, whereas you will not have that problem if you tie to a USB stick.

That seems a bit restrictive. I don't want to have to drag a USB stick from my home office to my work office.

It's a lot more flexibility than some people provide... I'll just buy a memory stick, stuff it on there and add it to my ever increasing collection of dongles... besides... it could be worse... you could need to hump an entire PC around with you

True - however, I don't have any easy accessible USB ports not already in use. Anyway - no worries - haven't receive a confirmation of a license yet

Perhaps a usb hub might help in this case?
