  • SDL 1.3 Will Be Under ZLIB License

According to Sam Lantinga on the libsdl.org site, SDL 1.3 will be under zlib license. He reported that they were going forward with licensing terms "that are compatible with open source and commercial projects" via the sdl mailing list. This will provide you absolutely free static linking on iOS and other platforms.

SDL development will mostly be community driven, but they will be working to make it easier to contribute to in many ways and are looking for people interested in helping out. Meanwhile, both Ryan C. Gordon and Sam, himself will continue to co-ordinate patch integration and SDL releases.

Wow, this is awesome. I would have personally preferred MIT, but zlib works for me too. This makes SDL 1.3 + iOS + Pascal more attractive. Unfortunately this change is only for SDL 1.3, SDL 1.2 is still LGPL.

Good news, at least for everybody who is interested in commercial development.

This may attract new users to this wonderful piece of software!
