  • Has Andorra 2D gone Dead?

Well worry not! Andreas St??ckel has just been having issues with the new SourceForge server software. He is currently rewriting a new CMS/Wiki system for his websites. In the meantime, the existing website for Andorra 2D at andorra.sourceforge.net will remain up as a static site.

New to the Pascal game programming scene and don't know what Andorra 2D is? Well here is the answer from the words of it's creator himself:
"Andorra 2D features a simple API for 2D programming which offers you the choice between both: The power of DirectX and OpenGL without the need of knowing anything about those graphic interfaces. Andorra 2D is designed to be the successor of DelphiX. That is because Andorra 2D uses nearly the same sprite engine interface as DelphiX. If you want to learn more about the features of Andorra 2D, visit the features page."
You can use Andorra 2D with Delphi or Lazarus and it makes use of either DirectX or OpenGL and takes advantage of the VCL/LCL object model of your development tool's libraries.

    Quick List of Features include:

    • Platform independence
    • Fast hardware-based graphics
    • Speedy particle engine
    • Skinable GUI library
    • 3D model loading
    • HLSL and Cg shader support
    • Vertex lighting
    • Video playback
    • Extensibility

Check out Andorra 2D at andorra.sourceforge.net.

Hm, don't get me wrong but rather than rewriting a new CMS/Wiki system for his websites for 2 years now, he should rather develop Andorra2d. Just my two cents.

I should note that the message that was posted on this static site is date stamped for "27 February 2011". I doubt that the CMS rewrite has lasted over the full 2 years since there was an update.

I do agree that it's been far too long from the last update we got on this really promising game library/API.

If I right, it is July now, and message about CMS was in February, so... I don't believe that Andorra 2D is alive, because of this topic:
      http://sourceforge.net/projects/ando.../topic/3908632

But I will change my mind if you get some answers from author directly.

I currently don't have time to work on Andorra 2D, as I'm currently studying and also working for a small software company. But I'm actually trying to answer all questions I get regarding Andorra 2D (as long as they can not be solved by looking at the tutorials or the documentation).

As far as I think Andorra 2D is in a really usable state and whoever wants to continue developing it, is free to send me an E-Mail.

My CMS/Wiki is also nearly done (for serveral month now), probably I'm going to finish it and upload it in my free time (which starts in two weeks).

I think that the lack of updates was also caused by how complicated it is for me to post news (at all, I forgot how my old system worked).

Another thing is, that I feel that Andorra 2D is not really challenging - I wrote most of it when being 15 and my focus has clearly shifted to stuff with a bit more mathematics in it ;-)
My fast 3D-Audio-Software renderer in Audorra is more interesting and if I had time, I would continue working on that.

So what does this mean for the future of Andorra 2D?

I guess he will continue working on this when finish his studies. The old version is still
      usable.

I am using it's easy AdSimpleXML unit as it is easiest XML manipulation
      framework I found.
