Thread: New RSS Feed...

    New RSS Feed...

    Hi All,
I've just rewritten the Rss feed to use the new forum's news system. For those of you using Firefox you should see an Orange icon appearing to the right of the URL address bar. Clicking on this should then add the RSS feed to the Firefox toolbar. Once added you can then find out what the headlines are before actually coming to the site.

Could those of you who use other RSS readers please confirm that it looks ok in your respective readers. Screen shots of it in other readers would be helpfull in sorting out any issues you find.

I look forward to reading your feedback.

    In FireFox's SAGE extension.

Works OK in Thunderbird. Thanks for adding this, I was looking for some RSS feed for pascalgamedeveloment.

May I suggest that you put a direct link visible on main page to http://www.pascalgamedevelopment.com/forums/rss.php ? Not everyone uses Firefox (I do, even though I use Thunderbird to browse RSS feeds), and RSS feed should be visible to everyone.

That Sage plugin is pretty cool. I may have to get it, thanks for the screen shot. The only Firefox plugin I use is "Reveal".

Thanks for letting me know it works in Thunderbird, I use it and did not know that you could import RSS feeds

It will be added in due course, but I wanted to make sure the feed was working for now.

I've just extended the length of the summary text to 200 characters so that more of the summary is included.

I have had this feed verified by http://feedvalidator.org/, so hopefully it will stay that way.

Anyone noticed any problems with the RSS feed. Any other feedback? Can we safely say it's working?

The RSS feed is working. However unlike other RSS feeds there is no body to the RSS emssage. I just get the post heading with no text to read to decide if you want more.

Yeah, unfortunately there is only the heading and a link to the news thread.

I'd have added the body right away, but since it contains BBCode, it requires some parsing. Otherwise it'll look nasty.

Thats not so much of a problem however, what was (at the time of putting it together anyways) was that the way guids (the key to decoding the BBCode encoded post body text) where generated was different and I didn't have the time then to start digging and sifting for the right libraries to get the functions needed for it to all work right.

I do believe that I can get the body parsing, just need the free time to look at it a bit.
