    trueSpace 4.3 for $20

The guys over at Caligari are offering trueSpace 4.3 for an amazing price of $20 ( US ). This is a fully functional 3D package where you can learn the basics of 3D animation and rendering. The interface is very intuitive and is therefore easy to use.
They also offer competitive upgrades to version 6.6 and 7.x ( their latest and greatest version ).

    trueSpace 4.3 for $20

This is not good news! I paid over $400 for trueSpace 4.2 when it first came out!

It is an excellent program though - very capable and extremely easy to use.

Is version 4.3 able to export to 3DS?

    Greetings,

@Dirk: I think so, ask this here to be sure:

We are using Truespace 6 & 7.1 for our stuff, and it is a great tool, you can do nearly everything with it. Just takes some learning time to get into it.

well yes but that's how things go. Carrara 3 was also $299 just 3 years ago and then C4 came and now C5, at $249, while CS3 sold out at $28 and C4 is around $79Dito for TrueSpace 5, which you can find for around $90.

anytime a new version rolls out, you can expect either the price of the new one to go up, or to stay about the same and the old version to be officially discontinued or to go mute. They still have inventory of the older version though, so they go for next to nothing. Great opportunities for newbies to try stuff which used to cost a fortune a few years prior.

For Example, Amapi 6.1 is free.

Then you also find some things in magazine cover CDs.

If you're on a very tight budget this *is* good news.

Another example: Gmax was getting popular, too popular at some point, so they discontinued it. But you can still find a full latest build version on the MS FLightsim 2004 CDs (A century of Flight, CD #1).

We used Amapi before buying Truespace.

Forget about Amapi and the other Eovia Products (besides of Hexagon) they are totally buggy and cannot export one single format without errors!

So if you want to prerender stuff, make a bitmap of the 3D mesh, this is okay, but if you want to use the mesh for your games forget about it!

TrueSpace is much better in that case.

you can make a whole lot of good stuff in AMapi 6.1 in seconds or minutes, without crashing. But granted, better game-oriented export formats would be good.

Carrra Studio 2 came free on some 3D World magazine cover recently. We liquidated the remaining inventory of CS3, there's not much left. C4 is very decent. But yes again, you may want something like Milkshape 3D for converting to your game formats.

    Even GameSpace uses that afaik.

That all said, they're all just tools. ANd they have very similar features. GameSpace/TrueSpace may be more focused on stuff needed for gamers.

Compare some stuff at www.thebest3d.com/amapi and www.thebest3d.com/caligari and www.thebest3d.com/carrara to get some more ideas. In the end I highly recommend you try several tools to find your best. Each user has differences of opinions on various interfaces, and it also varies with the PC you try it on.

I've used a lot of modelers, like Milkshape, Blender, 3DS, Softimage, Maya, but I think truespace, at least version 4, has just about the best balance of power and ease of use for making art in games.

    Yes, the same for me

We were very dissatiefied with the Eovia Stuff, we bought Amapi 7 and Carrara 4 and Hexgon 2, then Truespace 7.

We only use TS7 with Hexagon 2 now, the others are not able to export to a useful format without errors. In 3DS Materials were missing, in OBJ some parts of the mesh were missing etc.

TS7 with Hexagon 2 seems perfect and is everything you need. Model in Hexagon, animate and export directly to X or 3DS with TS7.
