    The Amateur 3D Game Engine

Hi. Long no see you. I have a busy live...

And part of the busy live is this: I've published version 1.0 of my Amateur 3D Game Engine.

This engine is based in the one I wrote for my 2nd PGD Challenge back in 2012. Such engine was written in about one single week and was pretty buggy because the hurry and also because Allegro.pas 5 was in a very early development state in that moment. I've fixed a ton of bugs, changed a bit the API and added some basic functionality.

Right now the engine is very simple and lacks a lot of functionality. I have a roadmap but since I'm working on this in my free time it will take time. Note that the engine is Amateur so it won't be as big or advanced than other engines. If you need something professional, please use Castle Game Engine; the latest releases are really good.

At the moment you can get the engine from here:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/a3dge/files/1.0/

Someday I'll have a proper webpage. You can see some screenshots at the summary page.

Impressive. Well done. I haven't tried if but it looks really neat. Keep up the good work. And Amateur stuff is quite good. Sure beats Noob

    Thanks.

I'm an amateur myself so I think it would be naïve try to do it professional.

Surely you many not be a professional but you are no amateur either. No you are somewhere in between. And judging by your roadmap I'm guessing you are slowly moving more toward professional.
Sure you are still far away in comparison with other better game engines but there is a big difference. You are developing your game engine alone while other better engines are being developed by teams of several people.

In your initial post you recommend people might use Castle Game Engine in case if they want something better. I still remember initial days when CGE was not in much better state than your current game engine seems to be. But then few of more experienced developers (some of them tried making their own game engines in the past) decided to join with michalis to work on CGE instead. This has raised CGE to a whole other level.

As I understand it 'Amateur' can have, at least, two meanings. A. Inept, inexperienced. B. Dedicated hobbyist doing stuff for fun and not being paid for it.

A type B amateur can be quite good at what he's doing but may of course also be a dabbling noob. But from what I'm told the dabbling noob should rather be called novice. Anyway I preffer to label myself as amateur in the second meaning though I'm afraid rookie mistakes are also still done.

I'd love to hear input on the amateur subject from the English speaking natives.

I'm a type B. Just fun, no profit. At the moment.

I was making a game for a tutorial and I've found a few little small easy to workaround bugs, so I made bugfixing releases. Two, actually.

You can get from the brand new web site I made here.
