Yes, it does work with other programs, at least with the notepad equivalent in ReactOS. But I really can't complain. The Delphi 3 is almost 30 years old and the ReactOS only in alpha stage.
Still I do try different ways to find a workaround. Maybe there won't be time for the Korean challenge but the 1.44 MB limit is pretty cool and worth pursuing.

Cumbersome but some success made. Workaround in progress.

Workaround ongoing. The good news is that the size limit will not be a problem. Currently the project is att 210 kB. So should be ok. But if finished it will be super simple. Playable but limited. And no in-game fireworks to celebrate success. I should not reveal the gameplay here but I can mention I go for SVGA resolution. 800x600 pixels.

I managed to complete and submit a game. Very limited but fully playable. It fulfills at least two of the three critera. Original work programmed since the announcement of the comptetion. @ ~230 kB well within the size limit. The trird criteria? Is it fun? That's for the jury to decide on.

Apparently there was over 350 submissions. Far more than expected, the organizers say.
I can add that the google submit form blocked .exe files. But the organizers gave me the opportunity to re-submit a zipped file. The contribution should still fit the 1.44 MB limit.

I must say that I'm not very surprised about that. I assumed there will be bunch of submissions since this is so niche challenge.

Nowadays most web pages forbid uploading executable files.
If I remember the challenge guidelines correctly it was suggested that submission be packed into ZIP or other archives but the size limit applies to extracted game.

It will be interesting to see what the other contestants came up with. Possible many studios from the 90ies or even 80ies had some work in progress ot polish and submit.
My submission was totally new. And very minimal. Perhaps more like a concept test. But fully playable.

I totally missed the zip recommendation but it makes sense of course.

Apparently the contestants will get the opportunity to have their creations 'published' at itch.io. I have never used that platform so I guess I have to look in to that, and pretty soon to. I guess the evalution of the contributions will take place coming weekend. So still some time.

https://itch.io/ is one of the most popular websites for publishing indie game projects. Currently there are 1,522,670 games published on it.Most game jams nowadays use itc.io as central page for game jam organizator because they made it so simple.
Another great thing about itch.io is that it allows publishing of HTML5 web games that can be played directly from itch.io so if you have a web game you don't necessarily need your own web server for hosting the game.
Most importantly it allows you to host the game for free unless you are selling it. At which point you have a choice to use either Paid or $0 or Donate payment mode. As far as I know in both cases itch.io takes 30% commission.
