    Gamedev's 4E6 Competition

Although quite a bit later than previous years, Gamedev.net has finally released the start date and rules for the sixth Four Elements contest.

The Four Elements Competition is a yearly event held by Gamedev.net. They invite you to create a game using the language or tool of your own choice, as long as it revolves around four -soon to be known- elements.

In previous years few Pascal entries have made it to the end (fairylands comes to mind). Let's see if we can do better this year.

Well, the elements are known. But, if you think last year's elements were though, wait till you see what they've come up with this time.

Go watch 'em here,.... if you dare.

What's wrong with the people at gamedev? Ponies and Accountants? I preferred last years elements, though I'm looking foreward to see some interesting games this year.

Yeah, I laughed a bit when I say their criteria myself.

I pictured a storyline with Accountants riding ponies trying to gather crystals and bring them back to their bank while avoiding being blown up by some evil miners or something.

Though, I'm quite sure that you've be playing the role of an anti-hero in this sort of game.

Sounds interesting. I'm looking foreward to see how your ponies turn out to look like.
Will this game have focus on humour or will it have a serious tone? I'm asking because I would have trouble taking a pony accountant serious?

I'm thinking about joining the contest myself despite the weird choice of elements. I've already comed up with an idea for a game, but I havne't decided yet if I wanna give it a shot or not. At least I'll have to finsih my exams comming up first, before I start on it.

I haven't decided if it is going to have humour in it or not :-)

As the 'ponies' are sentient and have built a civilization, I am making the assumption that they are basically humanoid in shape (not mentioned).

    cheers,

Basically using the reverse Centaur (Kentauroi) concept, just make sure they follow the god Hippoi Athanatoi to throw in a bit of trivia for the player. You could look for drawings of Satyrs to model after, but remember that the Satyr had the head of an ass (or mule) so you will have to elongate the muzzle a bit.

OMG  Ponies and accountants

I am very curious what kind of games will be created in this competition.

@Paul_nicholas: Your idea looks very good... i have troubles too, with taking ponies and accountants in one game serious, but i think the "funnyness" of your game will depend on what graphics and sounds you use... your story is quite serious i think, so you can still make a very serious game out of it (But the pony and accountant elements still make it a bit odd )
